열왕기하 18장

1 이제 이스라엘 왕 엘라의 아들 호셰아의 제삼년에 이러한 일이 있었으니, 유다 왕 아하즈의 아들 히스키야가 통치하기 시작하였더라.

1 Now it came to pass in the third year of Hoshea son of Elah king of Israel, that Hezekiah the son of Ahaz king of Judah began to reign.

2 그가 통치하기 시작할 때 그는 이십오 세였더라. 그리고 그가 예루살렘에서 이십구 년 동안 통치하였더라. 그의 어머니의 이름은 또한 아비로, 그녀는 사카리야의 딸이었더라.

2 Twenty and five years old was he when he began to reign; and he reigned twenty and nine years in Jerusalem. His mother's name also was Abi, the daughter of Zachariah.

3 그리고 그는 그의 조상 다윗이 행한 모든 것에 따라 주의 목전에 옳은 것을 행하였더라.

3 And he did that which was right in the sight of the LORD, according to all that David his father did.

4 ¶ 그가 높은 처소들을 치웠고 형상들을 부수었으며 작은 수풀들을 베어 내었고 모세가 만든 놋뱀을 산산이 부수었더라. 이는 그 당시까지 이스라엘 자녀들이 그것에다 향을 태웠기 때문이라. 그리고 그가 그것을 느후슈탄이라 불렀더라.

4 ¶ He removed the high places, and brake the images, and cut down the groves, and brake in pieces the brasen serpent that Moses had made: for unto those days the children of Israel did burn incense to it: and he called it Nehushtan.

5 그가 이스라엘의 주 하나님을 신뢰하였기에, 그의 이후로는 유다의 모든 왕들 가운데 그와 같은 자가 아무도 없었고 그의 이전에도 어느 누구도 없었더라.

5 He trusted in the LORD God of Israel; so that after him was none like him among all the kings of Judah, nor any that were before him.

6 이는 그가 주께 밀착하였고 그분을 따르는 데서 떠나지 아니하였으며 오히려 주께서 모세에게 명령하신 그분의 명령들을 지켰기 때문이라.

6 For he clave to the LORD, and departed not from following him, but kept his commandments, which the LORD commanded Moses.

7 그런즉 주께서 그와 함께하셨으니, 그가 어디로 나가든지 그가 형통하였더라. 이후에 그가 아시리아 왕을 대적하여 반역하였고 그를 섬기지 아니하였더라.

7 And the LORD was with him; and he prospered whithersoever he went forth: and he rebelled against the king of Assyria, and served him not.

8 그가 방비가 강화된 도시에 이르는 파수꾼들의 망대에서부터 심지어 가자와 그곳의 경계들까지 필리스티아인들을 쳤더라.

8 He smote the Philistines, even unto Gaza, and the borders thereof, from the tower of the watchmen to the fenced city.

9 ¶ 그리고 히스키야왕의 제사년, 이스라엘 왕 엘라의 아들 호셰아의 제칠년에 이러한 일이 있었으니, 아시리아 왕 샬만에셀이 사마리아를 대적하여 올라와서 그곳을 포위하였더라.

9 ¶ And it came to pass in the fourth year of king Hezekiah, which was the seventh year of Hoshea son of Elah king of Israel, that Shalmaneser king of Assyria came up against Samaria, and besieged it.

10 그리고 삼 년의 끝에 그들이 그곳을 점령하였더라. 바로 히스키야의 제육년, 곧 이스라엘 왕 호셰아의 제구년에 사마리아가 점령되었더라.

10 And at the end of three years they took it: even in the sixth year of Hezekiah, that is the ninth year of Hoshea king of Israel, Samaria was taken.

11 그리고 아시리아 왕이 이스라엘을 아시리아로 멀리 이동시켰고 그들을 할라 안과 고잔의 강가에 있는 하볼 안과 메데 사람들의 도시들 안에 두었더라.

11 And the king of Assyria did carry away Israel unto Assyria, and put them in Halah and in Habor by the river of Gozan, and in the cities of the Medes:

12 이는 그들이 주 그들의 하나님의 음성에 순종하지 아니하고 오히려 그분의 언약과 주의 종 모세가 명령한 모든 것을 위반하며 그것들을 들으려 하지도, 그것들을 실행하지도 아니한 까닭이라.

12 Because they obeyed not the voice of the LORD their God, but transgressed his covenant, and all that Moses the servant of the LORD commanded, and would not hear them, nor do them.

13 ¶ 이제 히스키야왕의 제십사년에 아시리아 왕 센나케립이 방비가 강화된 유다의 모든 도시들을 대적하여 올라와서 그것들을 점령하였더라.

13 ¶ Now in the fourteenth year of king Hezekiah did Sennacherib king of Assyria come up against all the fenced cities of Judah, and took them.

14 그리고 유다 왕 히스키야가 라키시로 아시리아 왕에게 사람을 보내며 말하기를, “내가 범죄하였나이다. 저를 떠나 되돌아가시옵소서. 제가 당신이 제게 올려놓는 것을 감당하겠나이다.” 하였더라. 그러자 아시리아 왕이 유다 왕 히스키야에게 은 삼백 달란트와 금 삼십 달란트를 지정해 주었더라.

14 And Hezekiah king of Judah sent to the king of Assyria to Lachish, saying, I have offended; return from me: that which thou puttest on me will I bear. And the king of Assyria appointed unto Hezekiah king of Judah three hundred talents of silver and thirty talents of gold.

15 이후에 주의 집 안과 왕의 집의 보물 창고들 안에서 발견된 모든 은을 히스키야가 그에게 주었더라.

15 And Hezekiah gave him all the silver that was found in the house of the LORD, and in the treasures of the king's house.

16 그때에 히스키야가 주의 성전에 속한 문들에서, 또 유다 왕 히스키야가 금을 입힌 기둥들에서 금을 뜯어 냈고 그것을 아시리아 왕에게 주었더라.

16 At that time did Hezekiah cut off the gold from the doors of the temple of the LORD, and from the pillars which Hezekiah king of Judah had overlaid, and gave it to the king of Assyria.

17 ¶ 그리고 아시리아 왕이 라키시에서 예루살렘을 대적하여 히스키야 왕에게 타르탄과 랍사리스와 랍샤케를 엄청난 군대와 함께 보냈더라. 그런즉 그들이 올라가서 예루살렘에 이르렀더라. 그리고 그들이 올라왔을 때 그들은 와서 윗못의 배수구 옆에 섰으니, 윗못은 세탁공의 밭의 대로 안에 있느니라.

17 ¶ And the king of Assyria sent Tartan and Rabsaris and Rabshakeh from Lachish to king Hezekiah with a great host against Jerusalem. And they went up and came to Jerusalem. And when they were come up, they came and stood by the conduit of the upper pool, which is in the highway of the fuller's field.

18 그리고 그들이 왕을 호출하자, 힐키야의 아들로서 집안을 관리하던 엘리아킴과 서기관 셰브나와 역사 기록관 아삽의 아들 요아가 그들에게 나와 있었더라.

18 And when they had called to the king, there came out to them Eliakim the son of Hilkiah, which was over the household, and Shebna the scribe, and Joah the son of Asaph the recorder.

19 그러자 랍샤케가 그들에게 이같이 말하였더라. “너희는 이제 히스키야에게 전하라. ‘위대한 왕, 아시리아 왕이 이같이 말하노라. ‘네가 신뢰하는 이 확신은 어떤 확신이냐?

19 And Rabshakeh said unto them, Speak ye now to Hezekiah, Thus saith the great king, the king of Assyria, What confidence is this wherein thou trustest?

20 너는 말하기를, (그러나 그것들은 헛된 말들에 불과하니) ‘내게 전쟁을 위한 조언과 힘이 있도다.’ 하는도다. 이제 네가 누구를 신뢰하기에 네가 나를 대적하여 반역하느냐?

20 Thou sayest, (but they are but vain words,) I have counsel and strength for the war. Now on whom dost thou trust, that thou rebellest against me?

21 이제 보라, 너는 이 상한 갈대로 된 지팡이, 곧 이집트를 신뢰하는도다. 만일 사람이 이집트 위에 기댄다면 그것은 그의 손에 들어가서 그것을 꿰찌르리라. 이집트 왕 파라오는 그를 신뢰하는 모든 자에게 그러하도다.

21 Now, behold, thou trustest upon the staff of this bruised reed, even upon Egypt, on which if a man lean, it will go into his hand, and pierce it: so is Pharaoh king of Egypt unto all that trust on him.

22 그러나 만일 너희가 나에게 말하기를, ‘우리는 주 우리 하나님을 신뢰하는도다.’ 한다면, 그 신은 그의 높은 처소들과 그의 제단들을 히스키야가 제거하며 유다와 예루살렘에게 말하기를, ‘너희는 예루살렘에 있는 이 제단 앞에서 경배할지니라.’ 했던 그 신이 아니냐?’

22 But if ye say unto me, We trust in the LORD our God: is not that he, whose high places and whose altars Hezekiah hath taken away, and hath said to Judah and Jerusalem, Ye shall worship before this altar in Jerusalem?

23 그러므로 이제 내가 너에게 간구하노니, 나의 주 아시리아 왕께 약조물들을 달라. 그런즉 만일 네가 능히 너의 편에서 말들 위에 기수들을 세울 수 있다면 내가 이천 마리의 말들을 너에게 넘기겠노라.

23 Now therefore, I pray thee, give pledges to my lord the king of Assyria, and I will deliver thee two thousand horses, if thou be able on thy part to set riders upon them.

24 그러할진대 어떻게 네가 나의 주인의 종들 중 가장 작은 일개 대장의 얼굴을 물리치겠으며 병거들과 기병들을 얻고자 너의 신뢰를 이집트에 두느냐?

24 How then wilt thou turn away the face of one captain of the least of my master's servants, and put thy trust on Egypt for chariots and for horsemen?

25 내가 지금 이 장소를 대적하여 그곳을 멸하려 하면서 주의 명령 없이 올라왔겠느냐? 주께서 나에게 말씀하시기를, ‘이 지역을 대적하여 올라가서 그곳을 멸하라.’ 하셨느니라.’”

25 Am I now come up without the LORD against this place to destroy it? The LORD said to me, Go up against this land, and destroy it.

26 그때 힐키야의 아들 엘리아킴과, 셰브나와, 요아가 랍샤케에게 말하기를, “제가 당신께 간구하오니, 당신의 종들에게 시리아 언어로 말씀하소서. 이는 저희가 그것을 이해하기 때문이니이다. 그런즉 성벽 위에 있는 백성의 귀에 들리도록 유대인들의 언어로 저희와 대화하지 마소서.” 하였더라.

26 Then said Eliakim the son of Hilkiah, and Shebna, and Joah, unto Rabshakeh, Speak, I pray thee, to thy servants in the Syrian language; for we understand it: and talk not with us in the Jews' language in the ears of the people that are on the wall.

27 그러나 랍샤케가 그들에게 말하기를, “나의 주인께서 너의 주인과 너에게만 이 말들을 전하라고 나를 보내셨느냐? 왕께서 성벽 위에 앉은 사람들에게 나를 보내시어 그들이 너희와 함께 그들 자신의 똥을 먹고 그들 자신의 오줌을 마시게 하신 것이 아니냐?” 하였더라.

27 But Rabshakeh said unto them, Hath my master sent me to thy master, and to thee, to speak these words? hath he not sent me to the men which sit on the wall, that they may eat their own dung, and drink their own piss with you?

28 그때 랍샤케가 일어서서 유대인들의 언어로 큰 목소리로 외치며 이같이 일러 말하였더라. “위대한 왕, 아시리아 왕의 말을 들으라.

28 Then Rabshakeh stood and cried with a loud voice in the Jews' language, and spake, saying, Hear the word of the great king, the king of Assyria:

29 왕이 이같이 말하노라. 히스키야가 너희를 속이지 못하게 하라. 이는 그가 그의 손에서 너희를 구출할 수 없을 것이기 때문이라.

29 Thus saith the king, Let not Hezekiah deceive you: for he shall not be able to deliver you out of his hand:

30 또한 히스키야가 말하기를, ‘주께서 반드시 우리를 구출하실 것이요, 이 도시는 아시리아 왕의 손안에 넘겨지지 아니하리라.’ 하면서 너희로 하여금 주를 신뢰하게 하지 않게 하라.

30 Neither let Hezekiah make you trust in the LORD, saying, The LORD will surely deliver us, and this city shall not be delivered into the hand of the king of Assyria.

31 히스키야에게 경청하지 말라. 이는 아시리아 왕이 이같이 말하기 때문이라. ‘나와 증여물로 협정을 맺고 나에게로 나아오라. 그리하여 너희는 모든 사람마다 자기 자신의 포도나무에서 나는 것을 먹고 모든 사람마다 자기 무화과나무에서 나는 것을 먹으라. 또 너희 모두는 저마다 자기 저수조에서 나는 물들을 마시라.

31 Hearken not to Hezekiah: for thus saith the king of Assyria, Make an agreement with me by a present, and come out to me, and then eat ye every man of his own vine, and every one of his fig tree, and drink ye every one the waters of his cistern:

32 내가 와서 너희의 본토와 같은 지역, 곧 곡식과 포도즙의 지역, 빵과 포도원들의 지역, 올리브 기름이 있고 꿀이 있는 지역으로 너희를 옮길 때까지 너희가 살고 죽지 않게 하려 함이라.’ 그런즉 히스키야가 너희를 설득하며 말하기를, ‘주께서 우리를 구출하시리라.’ 할 때에 그에게 경청하지 말라.

32 Until I come and take you away to a land like your own land, a land of corn and wine, a land of bread and vineyards, a land of oil olive and of honey, that ye may live, and not die: and hearken not unto Hezekiah, when he persuadeth you, saying, The LORD will deliver us.

33 민족들의 신들 중 누가 아시리아 왕의 손에서 자신의 온 영토를 구출한 적이 있기는 하느냐?

33 Hath any of the gods of the nations delivered at all his land out of the hand of the king of Assyria?

34 하맛의 신들과 아르팟의 신들이 어디 있느냐? 스팔와임과 헤나와 이와의 신들이 어디 있느냐? 그들이 사마리아를 나의 손에서 구출하였느냐?

34 Where are the gods of Hamath, and of Arpad? where are the gods of Sepharvaim, Hena, and Ivah? have they delivered Samaria out of mine hand?

35 그 나라들의 모든 신들 가운데 그들의 나라를 나의 손에서 구출한 자들이 누구이기에 주가 예루살렘을 나의 손에서 구출하겠느냐?”

35 Who are they among all the gods of the countries, that have delivered their country out of mine hand, that the LORD should deliver Jerusalem out of mine hand?

36 그러나 백성이 그들의 침묵을 지켰고 그에게 한 마디도 대답하지 아니하였더라. 이는 왕의 명령이 있어 말하기를, “그에게 대답하지 말라.” 하였기 때문이라.

36 But the people held their peace, and answered him not a word: for the king's commandment was, saying, Answer him not.

37 그때 힐키야의 아들로서 집안을 관리하던 엘리아킴과, 서기관 셰브나와, 아삽의 아들인 역사 기록관 요아가 그들의 옷을 찢은 채 히스키야에게 왔고 랍샤케의 말들을 그에게 알렸더라.

37 Then came Eliakim the son of Hilkiah, which was over the household, and Shebna the scribe, and Joah the son of Asaph the recorder, to Hezekiah with their clothes rent, and told him the words of Rabshakeh.
