열왕기하 3장

1 이제 유다 왕 여호샤팟의 제십팔년에 아합의 아들 여호람이 사마리아에서 이스라엘을 통치하기 시작하였으니, 십이 년 동안 통치하였더라.

1 Now Jehoram the son of Ahab began to reign over Israel in Samaria the eighteenth year of Jehoshaphat king of Judah, and reigned twelve years.

2 그런데 그가 주의 목전에 악을 행하였더라. 그러나 그의 아버지처럼, 또 그의 어머니처럼 하지는 아니하였더라. 이는 그가 그의 아버지가 만든 바알의 형상을 치워 버렸기 때문이라.

2 And he wrought evil in the sight of the LORD; but not like his father, and like his mother: for he put away the image of Baal that his father had made.

3 그럼에도 불구하고 그가 느밧의 아들 여로보암이 이스라엘로 하여금 죄짓게 한 그의 죄들을 고수하였으니, 그가 거기에서 떠나지 아니하였더라.

3 Nevertheless he cleaved unto the sins of Jeroboam the son of Nebat, which made Israel to sin; he departed not therefrom.

4 ¶ 이후에 모압 왕 메샤는 목양하는 자였고 이스라엘 왕에게 십만 마리의 양들과 십만 마리의 숫양들을 그 양털과 함께 상납하였더라.

4 ¶ And Mesha king of Moab was a sheepmaster, and rendered unto the king of Israel an hundred thousand lambs, and an hundred thousand rams, with the wool.

5 그러나 아합이 죽었을 때 이러한 일이 있었으니, 모압 왕이 이스라엘 왕을 대적하여 반역하였더라.

5 But it came to pass, when Ahab was dead, that the king of Moab rebelled against the king of Israel.

6 ¶ 그런즉 바로 그때 여호람왕이 사마리아에서 나가 온 이스라엘을 계수하였더라.

6 ¶ And king Jehoram went out of Samaria the same time, and numbered all Israel.

7 그리고 그가 가서 유다 왕 여호샤팟에게 사람을 보내며 말하기를, “모압 왕이 나를 대적하여 반역하였나이다. 당신은 모압을 대적하여 나와 함께 전투하러 가겠나이까?” 하였더라. 이에 그가 말하기를, “내가 올라가겠나이다. 나는 당신과 같고, 나의 백성은 당신의 백성과 같으며, 나의 말들은 당신의 말들과 같나이다.” 하였더라.

7 And he went and sent to Jehoshaphat the king of Judah, saying, The king of Moab hath rebelled against me: wilt thou go with me against Moab to battle? And he said, I will go up: I am as thou art, my people as thy people, and my horses as thy horses.

8 그러자 그가 말하기를, “우리가 어느 길로 올라가야 하리이까?” 하였더라. 이에 그가 대답하기를, “에돔의 광야를 통과하는 길이니이다.” 하였더라.

8 And he said, Which way shall we go up? And he answered, The way through the wilderness of Edom.

9 그렇게 하여 이스라엘 왕이 갔으며, 유다 왕과 에돔 왕이 함께하였는데 그들이 칠 일의 여정으로 빙 둘러 우회하였더라. 그런데 군대를 위한 물과 그들을 따른 가축을 위한 물이 없었더라.

9 So the king of Israel went, and the king of Judah, and the king of Edom: and they fetched a compass of seven days' journey: and there was no water for the host, and for the cattle that followed them.

10 그러자 이스라엘 왕이 말하기를, “아, 슬프도다! 이는 주께서 이 세 왕들을 함께 부르시어 그들을 모압의 손안에 넘기려 하시기 때문이라!” 하였더라.

10 And the king of Israel said, Alas! that the LORD hath called these three kings together, to deliver them into the hand of Moab!

11 그러나 여호샤팟이 말하기를, “여기에 주의 예언자가 한 명도 없나이까? 이는 우리가 그를 통하여 주께 여쭈려 함이니이다.” 하였더라. 이에 이스라엘 왕의 종들 중 한명이 대답하여 말하기를, “엘리야의 두 손에 물을 따르던, 샤팟의 아들 엘리사가 여기에 있나이다.” 하였더라.

11 But Jehoshaphat said, Is there not here a prophet of the LORD, that we may enquire of the LORD by him? And one of the king of Israel's servants answered and said, Here is Elisha the son of Shaphat, which poured water on the hands of Elijah.

12 그러자 여호샤팟이 말하기를, “주의 말씀이 그와 함께 있나이다.” 하였더라. 그렇게 하여 이스라엘 왕과 여호샤팟과 에돔 왕이 그에게 내려갔더라.

12 And Jehoshaphat said, The word of the LORD is with him. So the king of Israel and Jehoshaphat and the king of Edom went down to him.

13 그런즉 엘리사가 이스라엘 왕에게 말하기를, “제가 당신과 무슨 상관이 있나이까? 당신의 아버지의 예언자들과 당신의 어머니의 예언자들에게로 친히 가소서.” 하였더라. 그러자 이스라엘 왕이 그에게 말하기를, “아니니라. 이는 주께서 이 세 왕들을 함께 부르시어 그들을 모압의 손안에 넘기려 하시기 때문이라.” 하였더라.

13 And Elisha said unto the king of Israel, What have I to do with thee? get thee to the prophets of thy father, and to the prophets of thy mother. And the king of Israel said unto him, Nay: for the LORD hath called these three kings together, to deliver them into the hand of Moab.

14 이에 엘리사가 이같이 말하였더라. “제가 그분 앞에 서 있는, 만군의 주께서 살아 계심을 두고 맹세하노니, 유다 왕 여호샤팟의 면전을 제가 유념하지 아니하였더라면 분명히 저는 당신 쪽을 바라보지도 아니하고, 당신을 쳐다보지도 아니하였으리이다.

14 And Elisha said, As the LORD of hosts liveth, before whom I stand, surely, were it not that I regard the presence of Jehoshaphat the king of Judah, I would not look toward thee, nor see thee.

15 그러나 이제 음유 시인 한 명을 제게 데려오소서.” 그리하여 그 음유 시인이 연주할 때 이러한 일이 있었으니, 주의 손이 그의 위에 임하셨더라.

15 But now bring me a minstrel. And it came to pass, when the minstrel played, that the hand of the LORD came upon him.

16 그런즉 그가 이같이 말하였더라. “주가 이같이 말하노라. 이 골짜기를 도랑들로 꽉 차게 만들라.

16 And he said, Thus saith the LORD, Make this valley full of ditches.

17 이는 주가 이같이 말하기 때문이라. ‘너희는 바람을 보지 못할 것이요, 너희는 비도 보지 못할 것이라. 그럼에도 너희가 마시도록 그 골짜기가 물로 가득 채워질 것이니, 너희도, 너희 가축들도, 너희 짐승들도 마시리라.’

17 For thus saith the LORD, Ye shall not see wind, neither shall ye see rain; yet that valley shall be filled with water, that ye may drink, both ye, and your cattle, and your beasts.

18 그리고 이것은 주의 목전에 한 가지 가벼운 것에 불과하니라. 그분께서 너희의 손안에 모압족들도 넘기실 것이라.

18 And this is but a light thing in the sight of the LORD: he will deliver the Moabites also into your hand.

19 그리하면 너희는 방비가 강화된 모든 도시와 모든 빼어난 도시를 저마다 칠 것이요, 모든 좋은 나무마다 쓰러뜨리고 물이 있는 모든 우물들을 봉쇄하며 지역의 좋은 땅 조각마다 돌들로 손상을 입힐지니라.”

19 And ye shall smite every fenced city, and every choice city, and shall fell every good tree, and stop all wells of water, and mar every good piece of land with stones.

20 이윽고 아침에 음식 제물이 바쳐질 때 이러한 일이 있었으니, 보라, 에돔의 길을 통하여 물이 나왔고 그 지방이 물로 가득 채워졌더라.

20 And it came to pass in the morning, when the meat offering was offered, that, behold, there came water by the way of Edom, and the country was filled with water.

21 ¶ 그리고 모든 모압족들이 자신들을 대적하여 왕들이 싸우러 올라왔다는 것을 들었을 때 그들은 능히 갑옷을 입을 수 있던 자들부터 그 이상인 자들을 모두 모았고 국경선 가운데 섰더라.

21 ¶ And when all the Moabites heard that the kings were come up to fight against them, they gathered all that were able to put on armour, and upward, and stood in the border.

22 그리고 그들이 아침에 일찍 일어났는데 해가 물 위에서 반짝거렸으니, 모압족들은 다른 편 물이 피처럼 붉은 것을 목격하였더라.

22 And they rose up early in the morning, and the sun shone upon the water, and the Moabites saw the water on the other side as red as blood:

23 그러자 그들이 말하기를, “이것은 피라. 왕들이 확실히 살해되었고 그들이 서로를 쳤도다. 그러므로 이제 모압아, 노획물로 향하라.” 하였더라.

23 And they said, This is blood: the kings are surely slain, and they have smitten one another: now therefore, Moab, to the spoil.

24 그런데 그들이 이스라엘 진영에 도착하였을 때 이스라엘인들이 일어나서 모압족들을 쳤으니, 그렇게 하여 그들이 이스라엘 앞에서 도망쳤더라. 그러나 그들은 모압족들을 치면서 앞으로 전진하였으니, 심지어 그들의 지방 안에서도 그리하였더라.

24 And when they came to the camp of Israel, the Israelites rose up and smote the Moabites, so that they fled before them: but they went forward smiting the Moabites, even in their country.

25 그리고 그들이 도시들을 두들겨 무너뜨렸고 지역의 좋은 땅 조각마다 각인이 자기 돌을 던져서 그것을 메꾸었더라. 또 그들이 물이 있는 모든 우물들을 봉쇄하였고 모든 좋은 나무들을 쓰러뜨렸더라. 단, 킬하라셋에서는 그들이 그곳의 돌들을 남겼더라. 하지만 투석병들이 그곳을 돌아다니며 그곳을 쳤더라.

25 And they beat down the cities, and on every good piece of land cast every man his stone, and filled it; and they stopped all the wells of water, and felled all the good trees: only in Kirharaseth left they the stones thereof; howbeit the slingers went about it, and smote it.

26 ¶ 그리고 모압 왕이 자신에게 전투가 너무 치열한 것을 보았을 때, 그가 칼들을 뺀 칠백 명의 장정들을 자신 곁에 두었으니, 바로 에돔 왕까지 뚫고 들어가려 함이었더라. 그러나 그들이 그렇게 하지 못하였더라.

26 ¶ And when the king of Moab saw that the battle was too sore for him, he took with him seven hundred men that drew swords, to break through even unto the king of Edom: but they could not.

27 그때 그가 자신을 대신하여 통치해야 했던 자신의 장남을 취하여 그를 성벽 위에서 번제물로 바쳤더라. 그런즉 이스라엘을 대적하여 크나큰 격분이 일어났더라. 그러자 그들이 그로부터 떠나 자기들의 본토로 되돌아갔더라.

27 Then he took his eldest son that should have reigned in his stead, and offered him for a burnt offering upon the wall. And there was great indignation against Israel: and they departed from him, and returned to their own land.
