사무엘기상 11장

1 그때 암몬족 나하시가 올라와서 야베시길르앗을 대적하여 주둔하였더라. 야베시의 모든 사람들이 나하시에게 말하기를, “우리와 함께 언약을 맺자. 그리하면 우리가 그대를 섬기겠노라.” 하였더라.

1 Then Nahash the Ammonite came up, and encamped against Jabeshgilead: and all the men of Jabesh said unto Nahash, Make a covenant with us, and we will serve thee.

2 그러자 암몬족 나하시가 그들에게 대답하기를, “내가 이 조건으로 너희와 함께 언약을 맺겠노니, 곧 내가 너희의 오른쪽 눈을 모두 빼내서 그것을 온 이스라엘 위에 모욕으로 놓아두는 것이라.” 하였더라.

2 And Nahash the Ammonite answered them, On this condition will I make a covenant with you, that I may thrust out all your right eyes, and lay it for a reproach upon all Israel.

3 이에 야베시의 장로들이 그에게 말하기를, “우리에게 칠 일 동안의 유예 기간을 주어 우리가 이스라엘의 온 지경들에 전령들을 보낼 수 있게 하라. 그러고 난 다음에도 만일 우리를 구원할 사람이 아무도 없다면 우리가 그대에게로 나오겠노라.” 하였더라.

3 And the elders of Jabesh said unto him, Give us seven days' respite, that we may send messengers unto all the coasts of Israel: and then, if there be no man to save us, we will come out to thee.

4 ¶ 그때 전령들이 사울의 기브아로 와서 백성의 귀에 소식들을 알렸더라. 이에 모든 백성이 자신들의 목소리를 높여서 울었더라.

4 ¶ Then came the messengers to Gibeah of Saul, and told the tidings in the ears of the people: and all the people lifted up their voices, and wept.

5 그러자 보라, 사울이 밭에서 소 떼를 따라 나왔더라. 이에 사울이 말하기를, “무엇이 백성을 고통스럽게 하기에 그들이 우느냐?” 하였더라. 그러자 그들이 그에게 야베시 사람들의 소식들을 알렸더라.

5 And, behold, Saul came after the herd out of the field; and Saul said, What aileth the people that they weep? And they told him the tidings of the men of Jabesh.

6 이에 사울이 그 소식들을 들었을 때 하나님의 영이 그에게 임하였으니, 그의 분노가 대단히 크게 타올랐더라.

6 And the Spirit of God came upon Saul when he heard those tidings, and his anger was kindled greatly.

7 그런즉 그가 한 쌍의 소들을 취하여 그것들을 조각조각 썰고 이스라엘의 모든 지경들에 걸쳐 그것들을 전령들의 손에 보내며 말하기를, “누구든지 사울을 따라 나오지 아니하고 사무엘을 따라 나오지 아니하는 자는 그의 소들에게도 이와 같은 일이 벌어지리라.” 하였더라. 그러자 주에 대한 두려움이 백성 위에 임하였으니, 그들이 한마음으로 나아왔더라.

7 And he took a yoke of oxen, and hewed them in pieces, and sent them throughout all the coasts of Israel by the hands of messengers, saying, Whosoever cometh not forth after Saul and after Samuel, so shall it be done unto his oxen. And the fear of the LORD fell on the people, and they came out with one consent.

8 그리하여 그가 베젝에서 그들을 계수하였을 때, 이스라엘 자녀들이 삼십만 명이요, 유다 사람들이 삼만 명이었더라.

8 And when he numbered them in Bezek, the children of Israel were three hundred thousand, and the men of Judah thirty thousand.

9 그리고 거기 도착한 전령들에게 그들이 말하기를, “너희는 야베시길르앗 사람들에게 이와 같이 말하라. ‘내일 해가 뜨거워지는 시간에 너희가 도움을 받으리라.’” 하였더라. 그러자 전령들이 가서 그것을 야베시 사람들에게 보였더라. 이에 그들이 반가워하였더라.

9 And they said unto the messengers that came, Thus shall ye say unto the men of Jabeshgilead, To morrow, by that time the sun be hot, ye shall have help. And the messengers came and shewed it to the men of Jabesh; and they were glad.

10 그러므로 야베시 사람들이 말하기를, “내일 우리가 너희에게로 나오겠노라. 그리하면 너희는 너희에게 보기 좋은 대로 우리에게 모든 것을 행하라.” 하였더라.

10 Therefore the men of Jabesh said, To morrow we will come out unto you, and ye shall do with us all that seemeth good unto you.

11 그리하여 이튿날 이와 같은 일이 있었으니, 사울이 백성을 세 집단으로 편성하였더라. 그리하여 그들이 아침 경점에 군대 한복판으로 가서 한낮의 더위가 있기까지 암몬족들을 살해하였더라. 그러자 이러한 일이 있었으니, 남아 있는 자들이 흩어지고 그들 중 두 사람도 함께 남아 있지 않았더라.

11 And it was so on the morrow, that Saul put the people in three companies; and they came into the midst of the host in the morning watch, and slew the Ammonites until the heat of the day: and it came to pass, that they which remained were scattered, so that two of them were not left together.

12 ¶ 이에 백성이 사무엘에게 이같이 말하였더라. “‘사울이 우리를 통치하랴?’라고 말한 자가 누구니이까? 저희가 그들을 죽이고자 하니 그 사람들을 끌어내소서.”

12 ¶ And the people said unto Samuel, Who is he that said, Shall Saul reign over us? bring the men, that we may put them to death.

13 그러자 사울이 말하기를, “이날은 한 사람도 사형에 처해져서는 아니 되느니라. 이는 주께서 오늘 이스라엘 안에서 구원을 이루셨기 때문이라.” 하였더라.

13 And Saul said, There shall not a man be put to death this day: for to day the LORD hath wrought salvation in Israel.

14 그때 사무엘이 백성에게 말하기를, “오라, 우리가 길갈로 가자. 그리하여 거기서 왕국을 새롭게 하자.” 하였더라.

14 Then said Samuel to the people, Come, and let us go to Gilgal, and renew the kingdom there.

15 그러자 모든 백성이 길갈로 갔더라. 그리고 거기 길갈에서 그들이 사울을 주 앞에서 왕으로 삼았으며, 거기서 그들이 주 앞에서 화평 제물들에 속한 희생 제물들을 드렸더라. 그러자 사울과 이스라엘의 모든 사람들이 거기서 대단히 크게 기뻐하였더라.

15 And all the people went to Gilgal; and there they made Saul king before the LORD in Gilgal; and there they sacrificed sacrifices of peace offerings before the LORD; and there Saul and all the men of Israel rejoiced greatly.
