사무엘기상 31장

1 이때 필리스티아인들이 이스라엘을 대적하여 싸웠더라. 그런데 이스라엘 남자들이 필리스티아인들 앞에서 도망하다가, 길보아산 속에서 살해를 당하여 쓰러졌더라.

1 Now the Philistines fought against Israel: and the men of Israel fled from before the Philistines, and fell down slain in mount Gilboa.

2 그리고 필리스티아인들이 사울과 그의 아들들을 맹렬히 쫓았으니, 필리스티아인들이 사울의 아들들인 요나단과 아비나답과 말키슈아를 살해하였더라.

2 And the Philistines followed hard upon Saul and upon his sons; and the Philistines slew Jonathan, and Abinadab, and Malchishua, Saul's sons.

3 그리고 전투가 사울을 대적하여 격렬해졌고 활 쏘는 자들이 그를 맞혔더라. 그런즉 그가 활 쏘는 자들로 인하여 심한 부상을 입었더라.

3 And the battle went sore against Saul, and the archers hit him; and he was sore wounded of the archers.

4 그때 사울이 자신의 병기 드는 자에게 말하기를, “너의 칼을 빼서 그것으로 나를 찌르라. 이는 이 할례받지 않은 자들이 와서 나를 찔러 나를 욕보이지 않게 하려 함이라.” 하였더라. 그러나 그의 병기 드는 자는 원치 아니하였더라. 이는 그가 심히 무서워하였기 때문이라. 그러므로 사울이 칼 하나를 취하여 그것 위에 쓰러졌더라.

4 Then said Saul unto his armourbearer, Draw thy sword, and thrust me through therewith; lest these uncircumcised come and thrust me through, and abuse me. But his armourbearer would not; for he was sore afraid. Therefore Saul took a sword, and fell upon it.

5 이에 그의 병기 드는 자가 사울이 죽은 것을 보자 자신도 마찬가지로 자기 칼 위에 쓰러져 그와 함께 죽었더라.

5 And when his armourbearer saw that Saul was dead, he fell likewise upon his sword, and died with him.

6 그렇게 하여 사울과 그의 세 아들들과 그의 병기 드는 자와 그의 모든 사람들이 같은 날 함께 죽었더라.

6 So Saul died, and his three sons, and his armourbearer, and all his men, that same day together.

7 ¶ 이후에 골짜기의 다른 편에 있던 이스라엘 남자들과 요르단 건너편에 있던 자들이, 이스라엘 사람들이 도망친 것과 사울과 그의 아들들이 죽은 것을 보자, 그들이 도시들을 버리고 도망쳤더라. 그러자 필리스티아인들이 와서 그곳들 안에 거하였더라.

7 ¶ And when the men of Israel that were on the other side of the valley, and they that were on the other side Jordan, saw that the men of Israel fled, and that Saul and his sons were dead, they forsook the cities, and fled; and the Philistines came and dwelt in them.

8 이윽고 이튿날이 되어 필리스티아인들이 살해된 자들을 벗기러 왔을 때 이러한 일이 있었으니, 그들이 사울과 그의 세 아들들이 길보아산 속에 쓰러져 있는 것을 발견하였더라.

8 And it came to pass on the morrow, when the Philistines came to strip the slain, that they found Saul and his three sons fallen in mount Gilboa.

9 그리하여 그들이 그의 머리를 베어 내고 그의 갑옷을 벗겨 냈으며, 필리스티아인들에게 속한 주변 지역들로 보내어 그것을 그들의 우상들의 집 안과 백성 가운데 공표하게 하였더라.

9 And they cut off his head, and stripped off his armour, and sent into the land of the Philistines round about, to publish it in the house of their idols, and among the people.

10 그런 다음에 그들이 그의 갑옷은 아슈타롯의 집 안에 두었더라. 그리고 그들이 그의 시신을 벧샨의 성벽에 고정시켜 놓았더라.

10 And they put his armour in the house of Ashtaroth: and they fastened his body to the wall of Bethshan.

11 ¶ 그러자 필리스티아인들이 사울에게 행한 것을 야베시길르앗의 거주자들이 들었을 때,

11 ¶ And when the inhabitants of Jabeshgilead heard of that which the Philistines had done to Saul;

12 용맹한 모든 남자들이 일어나 밤새 갔으니, 사울의 시신과 그의 아들들의 시신들을 벧샨의 성벽에서 취하여 야베시로 왔고 그것들을 거기에서 태웠더라.

12 All the valiant men arose, and went all night, and took the body of Saul and the bodies of his sons from the wall of Bethshan, and came to Jabesh, and burnt them there.

13 그런즉 그들이 그들의 뼈들을 취하여 그것들을 야베시에 있는 나무 아래에다 장사하고 칠 일 동안 금식하였더라.

13 And they took their bones, and buried them under a tree at Jabesh, and fasted seven days.
