사무엘기상 14장

1 이제 어느 날 이러한 일이 있었으니, 사울의 아들 요나단이 자신의 병기 드는 청년에게 말하기를, “오라, 그런즉 우리가 건너편에 있는 필리스티아인들의 주둔군에게로 건너가자.” 하였더라. 그러나 그가 자기 아버지에게는 알리지 아니하였더라.

1 Now it came to pass upon a day, that Jonathan the son of Saul said unto the young man that bare his armour, Come, and let us go over to the Philistines' garrison, that is on the other side. But he told not his father.

2 이윽고 사울이 기브아의 맨 끝부분에서 미그론에 있는 석류나무 아래에 머물렀더라. 그리고 그와 함께 있던 백성은 약 육백 명의 남자들이었더라.

2 And Saul tarried in the uttermost part of Gibeah under a pomegranate tree which is in Migron: and the people that were with him were about six hundred men;

3 그런즉 아히툽의 아들인 아히야가 에봇을 입고 있었는데, 아히툽은 이카봇의 형제요, 이카봇은 피느하스의 아들이요, 피느하스는 엘리의 아들이요, 엘리는 실로에 있던 주의 제사장이었더라. 그리고 백성은 요나단이 간 것을 몰랐더라.

3 And Ahiah, the son of Ahitub, Ichabod's brother, the son of Phinehas, the son of Eli, the LORD'S priest in Shiloh, wearing an ephod. And the people knew not that Jonathan was gone.

4 ¶ 그런즉 요나단이 필리스티아인들의 주둔군에게로 건너가려고 하였던 통로들의 사이에는 이편에도 날카로운 바위가 있었고, 다른 편에도 날카로운 바위가 있었으니, 이 편의 것의 이름은 보제즈였고 다른 편의 것의 이름은 세네였더라.

4 ¶ And between the passages, by which Jonathan sought to go over unto the Philistines' garrison, there was a sharp rock on the one side, and a sharp rock on the other side: and the name of the one was Bozez, and the name of the other Seneh.

5 맨 앞의 것은 믹마시 맞은편에 북쪽 방향으로 자리하였고 다른 것은 기브아 맞은편에 남쪽 방향으로 자리하였더라.

5 The forefront of the one was situate northward over against Michmash, and the other southward over against Gibeah.

6 그리고 요나단이 자신의 병기 드는 청년에게 말하기를, “오라, 그런즉 우리가 이 할례받지 아니한 자들의 주둔군에게로 건너가자. 혹 주께서 우리를 위하여 역사하실까 함이라. 이는 주께서 구원하시는 것은 수가 많고 적음에 전혀 국한되지 아니하기 때문이라.” 하였더라.

6 And Jonathan said to the young man that bare his armour, Come, and let us go over unto the garrison of these uncircumcised: it may be that the LORD will work for us: for there is no restraint to the LORD to save by many or by few.

7 그러자 그의 병기 드는 자가 그에게 말하기를, “당신의 마음속에 있는 모든 것을 행하소서. 당신은 돌이키소서. 보소서, 저는 당신의 마음에 따라 당신과 함께 있나이다.” 하였더라.

7 And his armourbearer said unto him, Do all that is in thine heart: turn thee; behold, I am with thee according to thy heart.

8 그때 요나단이 이같이 말하였더라. “보라, 우리가 이 사람들에게로 넘어가 우리 자신을 그들에게 드러낼 것이라.

8 Then said Jonathan, Behold, we will pass over unto these men, and we will discover ourselves unto them.

9 만일 그들이 우리에게 이같이 말하여 ‘우리가 너희에게 이를 때까지 머물라.’ 하는 경우, 그때는 우리가 우리 장소에서 가만히 서 있을 것이요, 그들에게 올라가지 아니할 것이라.

9 If they say thus unto us, Tarry until we come to you; then we will stand still in our place, and will not go up unto them.

10 그러나 만일 그들이 이같이 말하여 ‘우리에게 올라오라.’ 하는 경우, 그때는 우리가 올라갈 것이니, 주께서 우리 손안에 그들을 넘기셨기 때문이라. 그런즉 이것이 우리에게 표적이 되리라.”

10 But if they say thus, Come up unto us; then we will go up: for the LORD hath delivered them into our hand: and this shall be a sign unto us.

11 그리하여 그들이 둘 다 필리스티아인들의 주둔군에게 자신들을 드러냈더라. 그러자 필리스티아인들이 말하기를, “보라, 히브리인들이 자신들을 숨겼던 굴들에서 밖으로 나오는도다.” 하였더라.

11 And both of them discovered themselves unto the garrison of the Philistines: and the Philistines said, Behold, the Hebrews come forth out of the holes where they had hid themselves.

12 그러고 나서 주둔군 사람들이 요나단과 그의 병기 드는 자에게 대답하여 말하기를, “우리에게로 올라오라. 그리하면 우리가 너희에게 한 가지 일을 보여 주겠노라.” 하였더라. 그러자 요나단이 그의 병기 드는 자에게 말하기를, “나를 따라 올라오라. 이는 주께서 이스라엘의 손안에 그들을 넘겨주셨기 때문이라” 하였더라.

12 And the men of the garrison answered Jonathan and his armourbearer, and said, Come up to us, and we will shew you a thing. And Jonathan said unto his armourbearer, Come up after me: for the LORD hath delivered them into the hand of Israel.

13 그리고 요나단이 그의 두 손과 그의 두 발로 기어올라갔고, 그의 병기 드는 자도 그의 뒤를 따랐더라. 그러자 그들이 요나단 앞에서 쓰러졌고 그의 병기 드는 자도 그를 따라가며 살해하였더라.

13 And Jonathan climbed up upon his hands and upon his feet, and his armourbearer after him: and they fell before Jonathan; and his armourbearer slew after him.

14 그리하여 요나단과 그의 병기 드는 자가 이룩한 그 첫 번째 살육은 한 쌍의 소들이 밭을 갈 만한 반 에이커¹의 토지 내에서 약 이십 명의 남자들을 살해한 것이더라.

14 And that first slaughter, which Jonathan and his armourbearer made, was about twenty men, within as it were an half acre of land, which a yoke of oxen might plow.

15 그러자 군대와 전장과 모든 이들 가운데 떨림이 있었으니, 그들, 곧 주둔군과 약탈자들 또한 떨었고 땅이 진동하였더라. 그와 같이 아주 커다란 떨림이 있었더라.

15 And there was trembling in the host, in the field, and among all the people: the garrison, and the spoilers, they also trembled, and the earth quaked: so it was a very great trembling.

16 그리고 베냐민의 기브아에 있던 사울의 파수꾼들이 망을 보았는데, 보라, 그 무리가 무너져 내리고 그들이 계속하여 서로를 내려쳤더라.

16 And the watchmen of Saul in Gibeah of Benjamin looked; and, behold, the multitude melted away, and they went on beating down one another.

17 그때 사울이 그의 곁에 있던 백성에게 말하기를, “이제 계수하라. 그리하여 우리에게서 누가 나갔는지 보자.” 하였더라. 그리하여 그들이 계수하자, 보라, 요나단과 그의 병기 드는 자가 거기에 없었더라.

17 Then said Saul unto the people that were with him, Number now, and see who is gone from us. And when they had numbered, behold, Jonathan and his armourbearer were not there.

18 그러자 사울이 아히야에게 말하기를, “하나님의 법궤를 여기로 가져오라.” 하였더라. 이는 하나님의 법궤가 그때에 이스라엘 자녀들과 함께 있었기 때문이라.

18 And Saul said unto Ahiah, Bring hither the ark of God. For the ark of God was at that time with the children of Israel.

19 ¶ 그런즉 이러한 일이 있었으니, 사울이 제사장에게 말을 거는 동안 필리스티아인들의 군대에 있던 소음이 계속하여 커져 갔더라. 그러자 사울이 제사장에게 말하기를, “네 손을 거두라.” 하였더라.

19 ¶ And it came to pass, while Saul talked unto the priest, that the noise that was in the host of the Philistines went on and increased: and Saul said unto the priest, Withdraw thine hand.

20 그리고 사울과 그의 곁에 있던 온 백성이 자신들끼리 한데 모였고, 그들이 전투에 임하였더라. 그런데 보라, 모든 사람의 칼이 저마다 자기 동료를 대적하였으니, 아주 대대적인 패주가 있었더라.

20 And Saul and all the people that were with him assembled themselves, and they came to the battle: and, behold, every man's sword was against his fellow, and there was a very great discomfiture.

21 이뿐만 아니라 그 시간 이전에 필리스티아인들과 함께 있던 히브리인들, 곧 주변 지방에서 진영 안으로 유입되어 그들과 함께 올라갔던 자들, 바로 그들 또한 돌이켜서 사울과 요나단과 함께 있던 이스라엘인들과 함께하였더라.

21 Moreover the Hebrews that were with the Philistines before that time, which went up with them into the camp from the country round about, even they also turned to be with the Israelites that were with Saul and Jonathan.

22 마찬가지로 에프라임산 속에 자신들의 몸을 숨겼던 이스라엘의 모든 남자들도 필리스티아인들이 도망친 것을 그들이 들었을 때, 그들 또한 바로 전투에 참여하여 열심히 그들을 뒤쫓았더라.

22 Likewise all the men of Israel which had hid themselves in mount Ephraim, when they heard that the Philistines fled, even they also followed hard after them in the battle.

23 이처럼 주께서 그날에 이스라엘을 구원하셨더라. 그리고 전투가 벧아웬으로 넘어갔더라.

23 So the LORD saved Israel that day: and the battle passed over unto Bethaven.

24 ¶ 그런데 그날 사울이 백성에게 엄명하며 말하기를, “저녁까지 어떤 양식이라도 먹는 사람은 저주받기를 바라노라. 이는 내가 나의 원수들 위에 복수가 이루어지게 하려 함이라.” 하였으므로 이스라엘 사람들이 괴로워하였더라. 그렇게 하여 백성 중 아무도 어떤 양식도 맛보지 못하였더라.

24 ¶ And the men of Israel were distressed that day: for Saul had adjured the people, saying, Cursed be the man that eateth any food until evening, that I may be avenged on mine enemies. So none of the people tasted any food.

25 그러다가 그 지역에 있던 모든 자들이 한 숲에 이르렀는데 지면 위에 꿀이 있었더라.

25 And all they of the land came to a wood; and there was honey upon the ground.

26 그리고 보라, 백성이 숲속으로 들어갔을 때에 꿀이 떨어졌더라. 그러나 아무도 자기 손을 그의 입에 가져다 대는 사람이 없었더라. 이는 백성이 맹세를 두려워하였기 때문이라.

26 And when the people were come into the wood, behold, the honey dropped; but no man put his hand to his mouth: for the people feared the oath.

27 그러나 요나단은 자기 아버지가 맹세로 백성에게 명하였을 때 듣지 못하였더라. 이러한 이유로 그는 자기 손에 있던 막대기 끝을 앞으로 내밀어서 벌집 안에 그것을 담그고 자기 손을 자기 입에 가져다 대었더라. 그러자 그의 두 눈이 밝아졌더라.

27 But Jonathan heard not when his father charged the people with the oath: wherefore he put forth the end of the rod that was in his hand, and dipped it in an honeycomb, and put his hand to his mouth; and his eyes were enlightened.

28 그때 백성 중 한 명이 반응하여 말하기를, “당신의 아버지가 백성에게 맹세로 엄하게 명하며 말하기를, ‘이날 어떤 양식이라도 먹는 사람은 저주받기를 바라노라.’ 하였나이다. 그리하여 백성이 기진하였나이다.” 하였더라.

28 Then answered one of the people, and said, Thy father straitly charged the people with an oath, saying, Cursed be the man that eateth any food this day. And the people were faint.

29 그때 요나단이 이같이 말하였더라. “나의 아버지가 그 지역을 괴롭게 하였도다. 내가 너에게 간구하노니, 내 두 눈이 얼마나 밝아졌는지 보라. 이는 내가 이 꿀을 조금 맛보았기 때문이라.

29 Then said Jonathan, My father hath troubled the land: see, I pray you, how mine eyes have been enlightened, because I tasted a little of this honey.

30 하물며 백성이 자신들이 발견한 그들의 원수들에게서 난 노획물을 오늘 자유롭게 먹었더라면, 얼마나 더 그러하였겠느냐? 그리하였더라면 이제 필리스티아인들 가운데 더 커다란 살육이 있지 아니하였겠느냐?”

30 How much more, if haply the people had eaten freely to day of the spoil of their enemies which they found? for had there not been now a much greater slaughter among the Philistines?

31 그런즉 그날 그들이 믹마시부터 아이얄론까지 필리스티아인들을 쳤더라. 그리고 백성이 몹시 기진하였더라.

31 And they smote the Philistines that day from Michmash to Aijalon: and the people were very faint.

32 그리하여 백성이 노획물로 달려들어 양들과 소들과 송아지들을 잡았고 그것들을 땅바닥 위에서 도살하였더라. 그리고 백성이 그것들을 피와 함께 먹었더라.

32 And the people flew upon the spoil, and took sheep, and oxen, and calves, and slew them on the ground: and the people did eat them with the blood.

33 ¶ 그때 그들이 사울에게 알리며 말하기를, “보소서, 백성이 피와 함께 먹음으로써 그들이 주를 대적하여 죄를 짓나이다.” 하였더라. 그러자 그가 말하기를, “너희는 불법을 행하였도다. 이날 나에게로 커다란 돌을 굴려서 가져오라.” 하였더라.

33 ¶ Then they told Saul, saying, Behold, the people sin against the LORD, in that they eat with the blood. And he said, Ye have transgressed: roll a great stone unto me this day.

34 그러면서 사울이 말하기를, “너희는 백성 가운데 흩어져서 그들에게 이같이 말하라. ‘모든 사람마다 각자 자기 소와 각자 자기 양을 여기 나에게로 가져오고 여기서 그것들을 도살하여 먹으라. 그리하여 피와 함께 먹음으로써 주를 대적하여 죄를 짓지 말라.’” 하였더라. 그러자 온 백성이 그날 밤 각자 자기 곁에 있는 자기 소를 가져왔고 그것들을 거기서 도살하였더라.

34 And Saul said, Disperse yourselves among the people, and say unto them, Bring me hither every man his ox, and every man his sheep, and slay them here, and eat; and sin not against the LORD in eating with the blood. And all the people brought every man his ox with him that night, and slew them there.

35 그리고 사울이 주께 제단을 쌓았더라. 바로 그것이 그가 주께 쌓은 첫 제단이었더라.

35 And Saul built an altar unto the LORD: the same was the first altar that he built unto the LORD.

36 ¶ 이윽고 사울이 말하기를, “우리가 밤에 필리스티아인들을 따라 내려가서 아침 햇살이 비출 때까지 그들을 노획하자. 그리하여 우리가 그들 중 한 사람도 남기지 말자.” 하였더라. 그런즉 그들이 말하기를, “당신께서 보시기에 좋은 대로 무엇이든지 행하소서.” 하였더라. 그때 제사장이 말하기를, “우리가 여기로 하나님께 가까이 다가가는 것을 허락하소서.” 하였더라.

36 ¶ And Saul said, Let us go down after the Philistines by night, and spoil them until the morning light, and let us not leave a man of them. And they said, Do whatsoever seemeth good unto thee. Then said the priest, Let us draw near hither unto God.

37 그러자 사울이 하나님의 조언을 구하였으니, “제가 필리스티아인들을 쫓아 내려가리이까? 당신께서 이스라엘의 손안에 그들을 넘겨주시겠나이까?” 하였더라. 그러나 그분께서 그날 그에게 대답하지 아니하셨더라.

37 And Saul asked counsel of God, Shall I go down after the Philistines? wilt thou deliver them into the hand of Israel? But he answered him not that day.

38 이에 사울이 이같이 말하였더라. “백성의 모든 우두머리들아, 너희는 여기로 가까이 다가오라. 그리고 이날 이 죄가 어디에 속하였는지 살펴보라.

38 And Saul said, Draw ye near hither, all the chief of the people: and know and see wherein this sin hath been this day.

39 이는 이스라엘을 구원하시는 주께서 살아 계심을 두고 맹세하노니, 비록 그것이 내 아들 요나단에 속하였다 할지라도, 그가 반드시 죽을 것이기 때문이라.” 그러나 모든 백성 가운데 그에게 대답한 사람이 한 명도 없었더라.

39 For, as the LORD liveth, which saveth Israel, though it be in Jonathan my son, he shall surely die. But there was not a man among all the people that answered him.

40 그때 그가 온 이스라엘에게 말하기를, “너희는 한쪽에 있으라. 그리하면 나와 내 아들 요나단은 다른 쪽에 있으리라.” 하였더라. 그러자 백성이 사울에게 말하기를, “당신께서 보시기에 좋은 대로 행하소서.” 하였더라.

40 Then said he unto all Israel, Be ye on one side, and I and Jonathan my son will be on the other side. And the people said unto Saul, Do what seemeth good unto thee.

41 그러므로 사울이 이스라엘의 주 하나님께 말씀드리기를, “완전한 제비를 주소서.” 하였더라. 이에 사울과 요나단이 뽑혔으나 백성은 면하였더라.

41 Therefore Saul said unto the LORD God of Israel, Give a perfect lot. And Saul and Jonathan were taken: but the people escaped.

42 그러자 사울이 말하기를, “나와 내 아들 요나단 사이에 제비들을 던지라.” 하였더라. 그러자 요나단이 뽑혔더라.

42 And Saul said, Cast lots between me and Jonathan my son. And Jonathan was taken.

43 그때 사울이 요나단에게 말하기를, “네가 무엇을 하였는지 나에게 알리라.” 하였더라. 그러자 요나단이 그에게 알리며 말하기를, “제가 제 손에 있던 막대기 끝으로 꿀을 조금 맛보았을 뿐이니이다. 그런데도 보소서, 제가 반드시 죽어야만 하리이다.” 하였더라.

43 Then Saul said to Jonathan, Tell me what thou hast done. And Jonathan told him, and said, I did but taste a little honey with the end of the rod that was in mine hand, and, lo, I must die.

44 그러자 사울이 대답하기를, “하나님께서 벌을 내리시고 또 더 내리시기를 바라노라. 이는 요나단아, 네가 반드시 죽을 것이기 때문이라.” 하였더라.

44 And Saul answered, God do so and more also: for thou shalt surely die, Jonathan.

45 이에 백성이 사울에게 말하기를, “이스라엘에 이 위대한 구원을 이룩한 요나단이 죽어야 하리이까? 하나님께서 금하시기를 바라나이다. 주께서 살아 계심을 두고 맹세하오니, 그의 머리에서 머리카락 한 올도 땅바닥으로 떨어지지 아니하리이다. 이는 그가 이날에 하나님과 더불어 일하였기 때문이니이다.” 하였더라. 그렇게 하여 백성이 요나단을 건져 내었으니, 그가 죽지 아니하였더라.

45 And the people said unto Saul, Shall Jonathan die, who hath wrought this great salvation in Israel? God forbid: as the LORD liveth, there shall not one hair of his head fall to the ground; for he hath wrought with God this day. So the people rescued Jonathan, that he died not.

46 그때 사울이 필리스티아인들을 쫓는 것을 멈추고 올라갔더라. 그러자 필리스티아인들이 그들의 본래 처소로 갔더라.

46 Then Saul went up from following the Philistines: and the Philistines went to their own place.

47 ¶ 그렇게 하여 사울이 이스라엘을 다스리는 왕국을 차지하고 사면에서 그의 모든 원수들을 대적하여 싸웠으니, 모압을 대적하여, 그리고 암몬의 후손들을 대적하여, 그리고 에돔을 대적하여, 그리고 조바흐의 왕들을 대적하여, 그리고 필리스티아인들을 대적하여 싸웠더라. 그리하여 그가 자신의 몸을 돌이키는 곳마다 그가 그들을 괴롭게 하였더라.

47 ¶ So Saul took the kingdom over Israel, and fought against all his enemies on every side, against Moab, and against the children of Ammon, and against Edom, and against the kings of Zobah, and against the Philistines: and whithersoever he turned himself, he vexed them.

48 그리고 그가 군대를 모아 아말렉족들을 쳤으며, 이스라엘을 약탈하였던 자들의 손에서 그들을 구출하였더라.

48 And he gathered an host, and smote the Amalekites, and delivered Israel out of the hands of them that spoiled them.

49 이제 사울의 아들들은 요나단과 이슈이와 멜키슈아였더라. 그리고 이것들은 그의 두 딸들의 이름들이니, 맏이의 이름은 메랍이요, 동생의 이름은 미칼이더라.

49 Now the sons of Saul were Jonathan, and Ishui, and Melchishua: and the names of his two daughters were these; the name of the firstborn Merab, and the name of the younger Michal:

50 그리고 사울의 아내의 이름은 아히마아즈의 딸 아히노암이었더라. 그리고 그의 군대 대장의 이름은 아브넬이요, 그는 사울의 삼촌 넬의 아들이었더라.

50 And the name of Saul's wife was Ahinoam, the daughter of Ahimaaz: and the name of the captain of his host was Abner, the son of Ner, Saul's uncle.

51 그리고 키시는 사울의 아버지였고, 아브넬의 아버지인 넬은 아비엘의 아들이었더라.

51 And Kish was the father of Saul; and Ner the father of Abner was the son of Abiel.

52 그리고 사울의 모든 날들 동안 필리스티아인들과 대적하여 심한 전쟁이 있었더라. 그런즉 사울이 어떤 강한 남자나 어떤 용맹한 남자를 볼 때면 사울은 그를 자신에게로 데려왔더라.

52 And there was sore war against the Philistines all the days of Saul: and when Saul saw any strong man, or any valiant man, he took him unto him.
