사무엘기상 13장

1 사울이 일 년 동안 통치하였더라. 그리고 그가 이스라엘 위에서 이 년 동안 통치하였을 때,

1 Saul reigned one year; and when he had reigned two years over Israel,

2 사울이 자신을 위해 이스라엘 남자들 삼천 명을 선택하였더라. 그중에 이천 명이 사울과 함께 믹마시와 벧엘산 속에 있었고 일천 명은 베냐민에 속한 기브아에서 요나단과 함께 있었더라. 그리고 백성의 나머지는 그가 각각 자기 천막으로 보냈더라.

2 Saul chose him three thousand men of Israel; whereof two thousand were with Saul in Michmash and in mount Bethel, and a thousand were with Jonathan in Gibeah of Benjamin: and the rest of the people he sent every man to his tent.

3 그런즉 요나단이 그바에 있던 필리스티아인들의 주둔군을 쳤으니, 필리스티아인들이 그것에 관하여 들었더라. 그러자 사울이 온 지역에 걸쳐 나팔을 불며 말하기를, “히브리인들은 들을지어다.” 하였더라.

3 And Jonathan smote the garrison of the Philistines that was in Geba, and the Philistines heard of it. And Saul blew the trumpet throughout all the land, saying, Let the Hebrews hear.

4 그리하여 사울이 필리스티아인들의 주둔군을 쳤다는 것과 이스라엘 역시 필리스티아인들에게 가증하게 된 것을 온 이스라엘이 들었더라. 그리고 백성이 사울을 따르도록 길갈로 함께 부름을 받았더라.

4 And all Israel heard say that Saul had smitten a garrison of the Philistines, and that Israel also was had in abomination with the Philistines. And the people were called together after Saul to Gilgal.

5 ¶ 그러자 필리스티아인들이 이스라엘과 싸우려고 자기들끼리 함께 모였으니, 삼만의 병거들과, 육천의 기병들과, 해안에 있는 모래와 같이 허다한 수의 백성들이 모였더라. 그리고 그들이 올라와 벧아웬에서 동쪽 방향인 믹마시에 진을 쳤더라.

5 ¶ And the Philistines gathered themselves together to fight with Israel, thirty thousand chariots, and six thousand horsemen, and people as the sand which is on the sea shore in multitude: and they came up, and pitched in Michmash, eastward from Bethaven.

6 이스라엘 사람들이 자신들이 궁지에 몰렸음을 보자, (이는 백성이 괴로워하였기 때문에) 그때 백성이 스스로 동굴들과 덤불들과 바위들과 높은 곳들과 구렁들 안에 숨었더라.

6 When the men of Israel saw that they were in a strait, (for the people were distressed,) then the people did hide themselves in caves, and in thickets, and in rocks, and in high places, and in pits.

7 그리고 히브리인들의 일부는 요르단을 건너가 갓과 길르앗 지역에 이르렀더라. 사울로 말하자면 그는 여전히 길갈에 있었고 온 백성이 떨면서 그를 따랐더라.

7 And some of the Hebrews went over Jordan to the land of Gad and Gilead. As for Saul, he was yet in Gilgal, and all the people followed him trembling.

8 ¶ 그리고 그는 사무엘이 지정했던, 정해진 시간에 따라 칠 일 동안 기다렸더라. 그러나 사무엘이 길갈로 오지 아니하였고 백성은 그에게서 흩어졌더라.

8 ¶ And he tarried seven days, according to the set time that Samuel had appointed: but Samuel came not to Gilgal; and the people were scattered from him.

9 그러자 사울이 말하기를, “번제물과 화평 제물들을 여기 나에게로 가져오라.” 하였더라. 그리고 그가 번제물을 바쳤더라.

9 And Saul said, Bring hither a burnt offering to me, and peace offerings. And he offered the burnt offering.

10 이윽고 그가 번제물을 바치는 것을 끝마치자마자 이러한 일이 있었으니, 보라, 사무엘이 왔더라. 그러자 사울은 자신이 그에게 문안하려고 그를 맞이하러 나갔더라.

10 And it came to pass, that as soon as he had made an end of offering the burnt offering, behold, Samuel came; and Saul went out to meet him, that he might salute him.

11 ¶ 이에 사무엘이 말하기를, “당신께서 무엇을 행하셨나이까?” 하였더라. 그러자 사울이 이같이 말하였더라. “백성들은 저에게서 흩어지고, 당신께서는 지정한 날들 안에 오지 않으시며, 필리스티아인들은 믹마시에 자기들끼리 함께 모인 것을 제가 보았기 때문이니이다.

11 ¶ And Samuel said, What hast thou done? And Saul said, Because I saw that the people were scattered from me, and that thou camest not within the days appointed, and that the Philistines gathered themselves together at Michmash;

12 그러므로 제가 말하기를, ‘필리스티아인들이 이제 길갈로 나에게 내려오려 하는데 내가 주께 간구를 드리지 못하였도다.’ 하였나이다. 그러므로 제가 어쩔 수 없이 번제물을 바쳤나이다.”

12 Therefore said I, The Philistines will come down now upon me to Gilgal, and I have not made supplication unto the LORD: I forced myself therefore, and offered a burnt offering.

13 그러자 사무엘이 사울에게 이같이 말하였더라. “당신께서는 어리석게 행하셨나이다. 당신께서는 주 당신의 하나님께서 당신께 명령하신 그분의 명령을 지키지 아니하였으니, 이때 주께서 이스라엘 위에 당신의 왕국을 영원토록 확고히 세우려 하셨기 때문이니이다.

13 And Samuel said to Saul, Thou hast done foolishly: thou hast not kept the commandment of the LORD thy God, which he commanded thee: for now would the LORD have established thy kingdom upon Israel for ever.

14 그러나 이제 당신의 왕국은 지속되지 못하리이다. 주께서 자기 자신의 마음에 맞는 한 사람을 찾으셨고 주께서 그에게 자신의 백성 위에 대장이 되라고 명령하셨으니, 주께서 당신께 명령하신 것을 당신께서 지키지 아니하셨기 때문이니이다.”

14 But now thy kingdom shall not continue: the LORD hath sought him a man after his own heart, and the LORD hath commanded him to be captain over his people, because thou hast not kept that which the LORD commanded thee.

15 그런 다음에 사무엘이 일어나서 길갈에서 베냐민의 기브아로 올라갔더라. 그리고 사울은 그와 함께 있던 백성을 계수하였으니, 약 육백 명의 남자들이었더라.

15 And Samuel arose, and gat him up from Gilgal unto Gibeah of Benjamin. And Saul numbered the people that were present with him, about six hundred men.

16 이후에 사울과 그의 아들 요나단과 그들과 함께 있던 백성이 베냐민의 기브아에 머물렀더라. 그러나 필리스티아인들은 믹마시에 주둔하였더라.

16 And Saul, and Jonathan his son, and the people that were present with them, abode in Gibeah of Benjamin: but the Philistines encamped in Michmash.

17 ¶ 그리고 약탈자들이 세 집단으로 필리스티아인들의 진영에서 나왔더라. 한 집단이 오프라로 가는 길로 돌이켜서 슈알 지역에 이르렀더라.

17 ¶ And the spoilers came out of the camp of the Philistines in three companies: one company turned unto the way that leadeth to Ophrah, unto the land of Shual:

18 그리고 또 다른 집단은 벧호론으로 향하는 길로 돌이켰더라. 그리고 또 다른 집단은 광야 쪽으로 향하는 즈보임 골짜기를 바라보는 경계에 속한 길로 돌이켰더라.

18 And another company turned the way to Bethhoron: and another company turned to the way of the border that looketh to the valley of Zeboim toward the wilderness.

19 ¶ 이때 이스라엘의 온 지역에 걸쳐 대장장이가 전혀 발견되지 아니하였더라. 이는 필리스티아인들이 말하기를, “히브리인들이 칼들이나 창들을 자신들을 위해 만들어 둘까 우려하노라.” 하였기 때문이라.

19 ¶ Now there was no smith found throughout all the land of Israel: for the Philistines said, Lest the Hebrews make them swords or spears:

20 반면에 모든 이스라엘인들은 각각 자신의 보습과 자신의 쟁기 날과 자신의 도끼와 자신의 곡괭이를 날카롭게 하려고 필리스티아인들에게 내려갔더라.

20 But all the Israelites went down to the Philistines, to sharpen every man his share, and his coulter, and his axe, and his mattock.

21 그럼에도 그들이 줄칼이 있어서 곡괭이들과 쟁기 날들과 쇠스랑들과 도끼들과 소몰이 막대기들을 날카롭게 하였더라.

21 Yet they had a file for the mattocks, and for the coulters, and for the forks, and for the axes, and to sharpen the goads.

22 그렇게 하여 전투의 날에 이러한 일이 있었으니, 사울과 요나단과 함께 있던 백성 중 누구의 손에도 칼이나 창이 발견되지 아니하였으며, 오직 사울과 그의 아들 요나단에게서만 발견되었더라.

22 So it came to pass in the day of battle, that there was neither sword nor spear found in the hand of any of the people that were with Saul and Jonathan: but with Saul and with Jonathan his son was there found.

23 이후에 필리스티아인들의 주둔군이 믹마시의 통행로로 나갔더라.

23 And the garrison of the Philistines went out to the passage of Michmash.
