민수기 16장

1 이때 레위의 자손이요, 코핫의 자손이요, 이즈할의 아들인 코라와, 르우벤의 자손들, 곧 엘리압의 아들들인 다단과 아비람과, 펠렛의 아들인 온이 남자들을 데려왔더라.

1 Now Korah, the son of Izhar, the son of Kohath, the son of Levi, and Dathan and Abiram, the sons of Eliab, and On, the son of Peleth, sons of Reuben, took men:

2 그리고 그들이 이스라엘 자녀들 중 어떤 이들과 함께 모세 앞에서 들고일어났으니, 이들은 집회의 통치자들 이백오십 명이요, 회중 가운데 유명하고 저명한 남자들이더라.

2 And they rose up before Moses, with certain of the children of Israel, two hundred and fifty princes of the assembly, famous in the congregation, men of renown:

3 그리하여 그들이 모세를 대적하고 아론을 대적하여 자신들끼리 함께 모여서 그들에게 말하기를, “너희 자신이 너무 분수에 넘치게 행하는도다. 온 회중이, 곧 그들 각자가 거룩하고 주께서 그들 사이에 계시거늘, 그렇다면 어찌 너희가 주의 회중보다 너희 자신을 높이 치켜세우느냐?” 하였더라.

3 And they gathered themselves together against Moses and against Aaron, and said unto them, Ye take too much upon you, seeing all the congregation are holy, every one of them, and the LORD is among them: wherefore then lift ye up yourselves above the congregation of the LORD?

4 이에 모세가 그것을 듣자 그는 자기 얼굴을 대고 엎드렸더라.

4 And when Moses heard it, he fell upon his face:

5 그러고 나서 그가 코라와 그의 일행 모두에게 이같이 일러 말하였더라. “바로 내일이면 누가 그분께 속하고, 누가 거룩한지 주께서 보여 주실 것이요, 그를 그분께로 가까이 나아오게 하시리라. 그분께서 선택하신 자, 바로 그를 그분께서 자신에게로 가까이 나아오게 하시리라.

5 And he spake unto Korah and unto all his company, saying, Even to morrow the LORD will shew who are his, and who is holy; and will cause him to come near unto him: even him whom he hath chosen will he cause to come near unto him.

6 이렇게 행하라. 너희, 코라와 그의 일행 모두는 향로들을 취하라.

6 This do; Take you censers, Korah, and all his company;

7 그리고 내일 주 앞에서 그 안에 불을 담고 그것들 안에 향을 담으라. 그리하면 이러한 일이 있으리니, 주께서 선택하시는 그 사람, 그가 거룩해지리라. 너희 레위의 아들들아, 너희 자신이 너무 분수에 넘치게 행하는도다.”

7 And put fire therein, and put incense in them before the LORD to morrow: and it shall be that the man whom the LORD doth choose, he shall be holy: ye take too much upon you, ye sons of Levi.

8 그리고 모세가 코라에게 이같이 말하였더라. “내가 너희에게 간구하노니, 너희 레위의 아들들아, 들으라.

8 And Moses said unto Korah, Hear, I pray you, ye sons of Levi:

9 이스라엘의 하나님께서 이스라엘 회중으로부터 너희를 구별시키시어 너희를 그분께로 가까이 데려와 주의 성막의 섬김을 이행하게 하시고 회중 앞에 서서 그들을 섬기게 하심이 너희에게는 단지 작은 것으로만 보이느냐?

9 Seemeth it but a small thing unto you, that the God of Israel hath separated you from the congregation of Israel, to bring you near to himself to do the service of the tabernacle of the LORD, and to stand before the congregation to minister unto them?

10 그런즉 그분께서 너를 그분께로 가까이 데려오셨으며 너와 함께한 너의 모든 형제들인 레위의 아들들을 가까이 데려오셨도다. 그런데 너희가 제사장직도 요구하느냐?

10 And he hath brought thee near to him, and all thy brethren the sons of Levi with thee: and seek ye the priesthood also?

11 이러한 까닭으로 너와 너의 일행 모두가 주를 대적하여 함께 모였으니, 아론이 누구기에 너희가 그를 대적하여 불평하느냐?”

11 For which cause both thou and all thy company are gathered together against the LORD: and what is Aaron, that ye murmur against him?

12 ¶ 그리고 모세가 엘리압의 아들들인 다단과 아비람을 부르러 사람을 보냈더니, 그들이 이같이 말하였더라. “우리는 올라가지 아니하겠노라.

12 ¶ And Moses sent to call Dathan and Abiram, the sons of Eliab: which said, We will not come up:

13 너 스스로가 자신을 전적으로 우리를 다스리는 통치자로 삼은 것도 모자라서, 네가 우리를 젖과 꿀이 흐르는 지역에서 데리고 올라와 우리를 광야 가운데서 죽이는 일이 작은 것이냐?

13 Is it a small thing that thou hast brought us up out of a land that floweth with milk and honey, to kill us in the wilderness, except thou make thyself altogether a prince over us?

14 게다가 너는 우리를 젖과 꿀이 흐르는 지역으로 데리고 들어가지 아니하였고 밭들과 포도원들도 우리에게 유산으로 주지 아니하였도다. 네가 이 사람들의 눈을 빼낼 작정이냐? 우리는 올라가지 아니하겠노라.”

14 Moreover thou hast not brought us into a land that floweth with milk and honey, or given us inheritance of fields and vineyards: wilt thou put out the eyes of these men? we will not come up.

15 그러자 모세가 몹시 격노하여 주께 말씀드리기를, “당신께서는 그들의 제물을 존중하지 말아 주옵소서. 저는 그들에게서 나귀 한 마리도 빼앗은 적이 없사오며, 저는 그들 중 한 사람도 해를 입힌 적이 없나이다.” 하였더라.

15 And Moses was very wroth, and said unto the LORD, Respect not thou their offering: I have not taken one ass from them, neither have I hurt one of them.

16 그러고 나서 모세가 코라에게 이같이 말하였더라. “너와 너의 일행 모두는 내일 주 앞에 있을지니, 곧 너와 그들과 아론이라.

16 And Moses said unto Korah, Be thou and all thy company before the LORD, thou, and they, and Aaron, to morrow:

17 그리고 모든 사람은 저마다 자기 향로를 취하여 그것들 안에 향을 담으라. 그런 다음에 너희 각인은 자기 향로, 곧 이백오십 개의 향로들을 주 앞으로 가져오라. 너도, 아론도 너희는 각기 자기 향로를 가져오라.”

17 And take every man his censer, and put incense in them, and bring ye before the LORD every man his censer, two hundred and fifty censers; thou also, and Aaron, each of you his censer.

18 그러자 그들은 저마다 자기 향로를 취하여 그것들 안에 불을 담고 그 위에 향을 놓았으며, 모세와 아론과 함께 회중의 성막 문 가운데 섰더라.

18 And they took every man his censer, and put fire in them, and laid incense thereon, and stood in the door of the tabernacle of the congregation with Moses and Aaron.

19 그리고 코라가 그들을 대적하여 회중 전체를 회중의 성막 문으로 모았더라. 이에 주의 영광이 회중 전체에게 나타났더라.

19 And Korah gathered all the congregation against them unto the door of the tabernacle of the congregation: and the glory of the LORD appeared unto all the congregation.

20 그런즉 주께서 모세에게와 아론에게 이같이 일러 말씀하셨느니라.

20 And the LORD spake unto Moses and unto Aaron, saying,

21 “이 회중 가운데서 너희 자신을 분리할지니, 내가 그들을 한순간에 소멸시키려 함이라.”

21 Separate yourselves from among this congregation, that I may consume them in a moment.

22 이에 그들이 자신들의 얼굴을 대고 엎드려 말씀드리기를, “오, 하나님, 곧 모든 육체의 영들의 하나님이여, 한 사람이 죄를 지었는데 당신께서는 회중 전체에게 진노하시겠나이까?” 하였더라.

22 And they fell upon their faces, and said, O God, the God of the spirits of all flesh, shall one man sin, and wilt thou be wroth with all the congregation?

23 ¶ 그러자 주께서 모세에게 이같이 일러 말씀하셨느니라.

23 ¶ And the LORD spake unto Moses, saying,

24 “회중에게 일러 말하기를, ‘너희는 코라와 다단과 아비람의 장막 주위에서 떠나라.’ 하라.”

24 Speak unto the congregation, saying, Get you up from about the tabernacle of Korah, Dathan, and Abiram.

25 이에 모세가 일어나서 다단과 아비람에게로 갔더라. 그리고 이스라엘의 장로들이 그를 따랐더라.

25 And Moses rose up and went unto Dathan and Abiram; and the elders of Israel followed him.

26 그리고 그가 회중에게 일러 말하기를, “내가 너희에게 간구하노니, 이 사악한 남자들의 천막들에서 떠나라. 또 그들의 소유들을 아무것도 손대지 말지니, 그들의 모든 죄들 가운데 너희가 파멸될까 함이라.” 하였더라.

26 And he spake unto the congregation, saying, Depart, I pray you, from the tents of these wicked men, and touch nothing of theirs, lest ye be consumed in all their sins.

27 그렇게 하여 그들이 코라와 다단과 아비람의 장막의 사면에서 일어나 떠났더라. 그리고 다단과 아비람이 나와서 자신들의 천막들 문 가운데 섰으니, 그들의 아내들과 그들의 아들들과 그들의 어린 자식들도 섰더라.

27 So they gat up from the tabernacle of Korah, Dathan, and Abiram, on every side: and Dathan and Abiram came out, and stood in the door of their tents, and their wives, and their sons, and their little children.

28 그러자 모세가 이같이 말하였더라. “이로써 너희는 주께서 나를 보내시어 이 모든 일들을 행하게 하셨음을 알리라. 이는 내가 나 자신의 생각으로 그것들을 행한 것이 아니기 때문이라.

28 And Moses said, Hereby ye shall know that the LORD hath sent me to do all these works; for I have not done them of mine own mind.

29 만일 이 사람들이 모든 사람들의 일반적인 죽음으로 죽는다면, 혹은 그들이 모든 사람들이 받는 벌에 따라 벌을 받는다면, 그때는 주께서 나를 보내신 것이 아니니라.

29 If these men die the common death of all men, or if they be visited after the visitation of all men; then the LORD hath not sent me.

30 그러나 만일 주께서 새로운 것을 조성하시어 땅이 그녀의 입을 열고 그들을 그들과 관련된 모든 것들과 함께 삼켜 버리며 그들이 산 채로 구렁 속에 내려간다면 그때는 이 사람들이 주를 격분시켰다는 것을 너희가 이해하리라.”

30 But if the LORD make a new thing, and the earth open her mouth, and swallow them up, with all that appertain unto them, and they go down quick into the pit; then ye shall understand that these men have provoked the LORD.

31 ¶ 그러자 이러한 일이 있었으니, 그가 이 모든 말들을 전하는 것을 끝마치는 동안 그들 아래 있던 지면이 둘로 갈라졌더라.

31 ¶ And it came to pass, as he had made an end of speaking all these words, that the ground clave asunder that was under them:

32 그러더니 땅이 그녀의 입을 열어 그들을 삼켜 버렸으니, 그들의 집들과, 코라와 관련된 모든 사람들과, 그들의 모든 소유물들을 삼켜 버렸더라.

32 And the earth opened her mouth, and swallowed them up, and their houses, and all the men that appertained unto Korah, and all their goods.

33 그들과, 그들에게 속한 모든 것이 살아 있는 채 구렁 속으로 내려갔으며, 땅이 그들 위에서 입을 닫았더라. 그리하여 그들이 회중 가운데서 목숨을 잃었더라.

33 They, and all that appertained to them, went down alive into the pit, and the earth closed upon them: and they perished from among the congregation.

34 그러자 그들 주위에 있던 온 이스라엘이 그들의 부르짖음에서 도망쳤더라. 이는 그들이 말하기를, “땅이 우리도 삼켜 버릴까 두렵도다.” 하였기 때문이라.

34 And all Israel that were round about them fled at the cry of them: for they said, Lest the earth swallow us up also.

35 그리고 주께로부터 불이 나와서 향을 바친 이백오십 명의 남자들을 살랐더라.

35 And there came out a fire from the LORD, and consumed the two hundred and fifty men that offered incense.

36 ¶ 그런 다음에 주께서 모세에게 이같이 일러 말씀하셨느니라.

36 ¶ And the LORD spake unto Moses, saying,

37 “제사장 아론의 아들 엘르아잘에게 일러 그로 하여금 불타고 있는 것에서 향로들을 거두어들이게 하고, 너는 그 불을 저쪽으로 흩으라. 이는 그것들이 거룩하게 되었기 때문이라.

37 Speak unto Eleazar the son of Aaron the priest, that he take up the censers out of the burning, and scatter thou the fire yonder; for they are hallowed.

38 자기 자신의 혼들을 대적한 이 죄인들의 향로들, 그것들로 그들은 넓은 평판들을 만들어 제단의 덮개로 삼으라. 이는 그들이 그것들을 주 앞에 바쳤으므로 그것들이 거룩하게 되었기 때문이라. 그런즉 그것들이 이스라엘 자녀들에게 표적이 되리라.”

38 The censers of these sinners against their own souls, let them make them broad plates for a covering of the altar: for they offered them before the LORD, therefore they are hallowed: and they shall be a sign unto the children of Israel.

39 그러자 제사장 엘르아잘은 불탄 자들이 바쳤던 놋 향로들을 취하였더라. 그리고 그것들은 넓은 평판들로 만들어져 제단의 덮개가 되었으니,

39 And Eleazar the priest took the brasen censers, wherewith they that were burnt had offered; and they were made broad plates for a covering of the altar:

40 이스라엘 자녀들에게 기념물이 되게 하려 함이요, 아론의 씨가 아닌 어떤 외부인도 주 앞에 향을 바치러 가까이 오지 못하게 하려 함이며, 그가 코라와 같이, 또 그의 일행과 같이 되지 않게 하려 함이라. 주께서 모세의 손을 통하여 그에게 말씀하신 대로였더라.

40 To be a memorial unto the children of Israel, that no stranger, which is not of the seed of Aaron, come near to offer incense before the LORD; that he be not as Korah, and as his company: as the LORD said to him by the hand of Moses.

41 ¶ 그러나 이튿날, 이스라엘 자녀들의 온 회중이 모세를 대적하고 아론을 대적하여 불평하며 말하기를, “너희가 주의 백성을 죽였도다.” 하였더라.

41 ¶ But on the morrow all the congregation of the children of Israel murmured against Moses and against Aaron, saying, Ye have killed the people of the LORD.

42 그리고 회중이 모세를 대적하고 아론을 대적하여 모였을 때 이러한 일이 있었으니, 그들이 회중의 성막 쪽을 바라보았더라. 그러자 보라, 구름이 그것을 덮었고 주의 영광이 나타났더라.

42 And it came to pass, when the congregation was gathered against Moses and against Aaron, that they looked toward the tabernacle of the congregation: and, behold, the cloud covered it, and the glory of the LORD appeared.

43 이에 모세와 아론이 회중의 성막 앞으로 왔더라.

43 And Moses and Aaron came before the tabernacle of the congregation.

44 ¶ 그러자 주께서 모세에게 이같이 일러 말씀하셨느니라.

44 ¶ And the LORD spake unto Moses, saying,

45 “너희는 이 회중 가운데서 일어나 떠날지니, 내가 한순간에 그들을 사르려 함이라.” 이에 그들이 자신들의 얼굴을 대고 엎드렸더라.

45 Get you up from among this congregation, that I may consume them as in a moment. And they fell upon their faces.

46 ¶ 그리고 모세가 아론에게 말하기를, “향로를 취하여 제단으로부터 꺼낸 불을 그 안에 담고 향을 올린 다음에 회중에게로 속히 가서 그들을 위한 속죄를 이행하라. 이는 주께로부터 진노가 나갔으므로 재앙이 시작되었기 때문이라.” 하였더라.

46 ¶ And Moses said unto Aaron, Take a censer, and put fire therein from off the altar, and put on incense, and go quickly unto the congregation, and make an atonement for them: for there is wrath gone out from the LORD; the plague is begun.

47 그러자 아론이 모세가 명령한 대로 향로를 취하여 회중 한가운데로 달려갔더라. 그런데 보라, 재앙이 백성 가운데서 시작되었더라. 그리하여 그가 향을 올리고 백성을 위한 속죄를 이행하였더라.

47 And Aaron took as Moses commanded, and ran into the midst of the congregation; and, behold, the plague was begun among the people: and he put on incense, and made an atonement for the people.

48 그런 다음에 그가 죽은 자들과 산 자들 사이에 섰더니, 그 재앙이 그쳤더라.

48 And he stood between the dead and the living; and the plague was stayed.

49 이때 코라 사건으로 죽은 자들 이외에, 재앙으로 죽은 자들이 일만 사천칠백 명이었더라.

49 Now they that died in the plague were fourteen thousand and seven hundred, beside them that died about the matter of Korah.

50 그리고 아론이 회중의 성막 문에 있는 모세에게로 되돌아왔더라. 그런즉 그 재앙이 그쳤더라.

50 And Aaron returned unto Moses unto the door of the tabernacle of the congregation: and the plague was stayed.
