예레미야서 5장

1 너희는 예루살렘의 거리들을 이리저리 두루 달려서 지금 보고 알며 그곳의 넓은 곳들 안에서 찾으라. 만일 너희가 한 사람이라도 찾을 수 있다면, 공의를 집행하고 진리를 찾는 누군가가 있다면 내가 그곳을 면죄하겠노라.

1 Run ye to and fro through the streets of Jerusalem, and see now, and know, and seek in the broad places thereof, if ye can find a man, if there be any that executeth judgment, that seeketh the truth; and I will pardon it.

2 그리고 그들이 말하기를, “주께서 살아 계시는도다.” 할지라도 과연 그들은 거짓되이 맹세하는도다.

2 And though they say, The LORD liveth; surely they swear falsely.

3 오, 주여, 당신의 눈들이 진리 위에 있지 아니하나이까? 당신께서 그들을 치셨으나 그들은 비통해하지 아니하였나이다. 당신께서 그들을 진멸하셨으나 그들은 바로잡음을 받아들이기를 거부하였나이다. 그들은 그들의 얼굴을 바위보다 더 딱딱하게 하였나니, 그들이 되돌아오기를 거부하였나이다.

3 O LORD, are not thine eyes upon the truth? thou hast stricken them, but they have not grieved; thou hast consumed them, but they have refused to receive correction: they have made their faces harder than a rock; they have refused to return.

4 그러므로 내가 말하기를, “과연 이들이 불쌍하도다. 그들은 어리석도다. 이는 그들이 주의 길도 모르고 그들의 하나님의 공의도 모르기 때문이라.” 하였도다.

4 Therefore I said, Surely these are poor; they are foolish: for they know not the way of the LORD, nor the judgment of their God.

5 내가 위대한 사람들에게 옮겨가서 그들에게 말하겠노라. 이는 그들이 주의 길과 그들의 하나님의 공의를 알았기 때문이라. 그러나 이들은 하나같이 멍에를 꺾었고 그 결박들을 터뜨렸도다.

5 I will get me unto the great men, and will speak unto them; for they have known the way of the LORD, and the judgment of their God: but these have altogether broken the yoke, and burst the bonds.

6 이러한 이유로 숲에서 나오는 사자가 그들을 살해할 것이요, 저녁마다 나오는 늑대가 그들을 해칠 것이요, 표범이 그들의 도시들을 지켜보리라. 거기에서 나오는 모든 이마다 갈기갈기 찢기리라. 이는 그들의 불법들이 많고 그들의 타락들이 늘어난 까닭이라.

6 Wherefore a lion out of the forest shall slay them, and a wolf of the evenings shall spoil them, a leopard shall watch over their cities: every one that goeth out thence shall be torn in pieces: because their transgressions are many, and their backslidings are increased.

7 ¶ 내가 이것으로 인하여 어떻게 너를 면죄하겠느냐? 너의 자녀들이 나를 버렸고 신들이 아닌 것들을 두고 맹세하였도다. 내가 그들을 배부르게 먹였건만 그 후에 그들은 간음하였고 자기들끼리 패거리들을 결성하여 창녀들의 집들 안에서 회동하였도다.

7 ¶ How shall I pardon thee for this? thy children have forsaken me, and sworn by them that are no gods: when I had fed them to the full, they then committed adultery, and assembled themselves by troops in the harlots' houses.

8 그들은 아침에 먹인 말들 같도다. 모두 저마다 그의 이웃의 아내의 뒤에서 말처럼 우는도다.

8 They were as fed horses in the morning: every one neighed after his neighbour's wife.

9 내가 이런 것들로 인하여 벌하지 아니하겠느냐? 주가 말하노라. 그리고 나의 혼이 이와 같은 민족에게 복수가 이루어지게 하지 않겠느냐?

9 Shall I not visit for these things? saith the LORD: and shall not my soul be avenged on such a nation as this?

10 ¶ 너희는 그녀의 성벽들 위에 올라가서 무너뜨리라. 그러나 완전히 끝내지는 말라. 그녀의 성첩들만 제거하라. 이는 그것들이 주의 것이 아니기 때문이라.

10 ¶ Go ye up upon her walls, and destroy; but make not a full end: take away her battlements; for they are not the LORD'S.

11 이는 이스라엘 집과 유다 집이 나를 대적하여 심히 배신하였기 때문이라. 주가 말하노라.

11 For the house of Israel and the house of Judah have dealt very treacherously against me, saith the LORD.

12 그들이 주에 대해 거짓을 전해왔으니 말하기를, “그것은 그분이 하신 것이 아니로다. 해악이 우리 위에 임하지도 아니하리라. 우리가 칼이나 기근을 보지도 아니하리라.” 하였도다.

12 They have belied the LORD, and said, It is not he; neither shall evil come upon us; neither shall we see sword nor famine:

13 그러므로 예언자들은 바람이 될 것이니, 말씀이 그들 안에 있지 아니하도다. 그것이 그들에게 그렇게 이루어지리라.

13 And the prophets shall become wind, and the word is not in them: thus shall it be done unto them.

14 이러한 이유로 만군의 주 하나님이 이같이 말하노라. 너희가 이 말을 내뱉는 까닭에, 보라, 내가 너의 입안에 있는 나의 말들을 불로, 이 백성을 나무로 만들겠으니, 그것이 그들을 집어삼키리라.

14 Wherefore thus saith the LORD God of hosts, Because ye speak this word, behold, I will make my words in thy mouth fire, and this people wood, and it shall devour them.

15 주가 말하노라. 보라, 오, 이스라엘 집아, 내가 먼 곳으로부터 너희 위로 한 민족을 데려오겠노라. 그것은 막강한 민족이요, 그것은 아주 오래된 민족이요, 네가 모르는 언어를 가져서 그들이 말하는 것을 네가 이해하지도 못하는 민족이로다.

15 Lo, I will bring a nation upon you from far, O house of Israel, saith the LORD: it is a mighty nation, it is an ancient nation, a nation whose language thou knowest not, neither understandest what they say.

16 그들의 화살통은 열린 돌무덤과 같고, 그들은 모두 막강한 남자들이라.

16 Their quiver is as an open sepulchre, they are all mighty men.

17 그리고 너의 아들들과 너의 딸들이 먹을, 너의 수확물과 너의 빵을 그들이 먹어 치울 것이요, 그들은 너의 양 떼들과 너의 소 떼들도 먹어 치울 것이요, 그들은 너의 포도나무들과 너의 무화과나무들까지 먹어 치울 것이요, 그들은 네가 신뢰하고 있는 방비가 강화된 너의 도시들을 칼로 빈궁하게 하리라.

17 And they shall eat up thine harvest, and thy bread, which thy sons and thy daughters should eat: they shall eat up thy flocks and thine herds: they shall eat up thy vines and thy fig trees: they shall impoverish thy fenced cities, wherein thou trustedst, with the sword.

18 주가 말하노라. 그럼에도 불구하고 그날들에 나는 너희를 완전히 끝내지 아니하겠노라.

18 Nevertheless in those days, saith the LORD, I will not make a full end with you.

19 ¶ 그런즉 너희가 말하기를, “어찌 주 우리 하나님께서 이 모든 것들을 우리에게 행하시는가?” 하고 말할 때 이러한 일이 있으리니, 비로소 너는 그들에게 대답하기를, “너희가 나를 버리고 너희 지역 안에서 타국 신들을 섬겼던 것처럼 마찬가지로 너희가 그렇게 너희 것이 아닌 지역에서 타국인들을 섬기리라.” 할지니라.

19 ¶ And it shall come to pass, when ye shall say, Wherefore doeth the LORD our God all these things unto us? then shalt thou answer them, Like as ye have forsaken me, and served strange gods in your land, so shall ye serve strangers in a land that is not yours.

20 야곱의 집에서 이것을 선언하고 그것을 유다에서 공표하며 이같이 말하라.

20 Declare this in the house of Jacob, and publish it in Judah, saying,

21 오, 어리석고 명철이 없는 백성아, 눈이 있어도 보지 못하고 귀가 있어도 듣지 못하는 백성아, 이제 이것을 들으라.

21 Hear now this, O foolish people, and without understanding; which have eyes, and see not; which have ears, and hear not:

22 너희는 나를 두려워하지 아니하느냐? 주가 말하노라. 너희가 나의 면전에서 떨지 아니하랴? 나는 영속적인 칙령에 따라 모래를 바다의 한계선으로 배치하여 그것이 그것을 넘어올 수 없게 한 이니, 바다의 파도들이 스스로 요동할지라도 여전히 그것들은 승리할 수 없으니, 파도들이 포효할지라도 여전히 그것들은 모래를 넘어올 수 없도다.

22 Fear ye not me? saith the LORD: will ye not tremble at my presence, which have placed the sand for the bound of the sea by a perpetual decree, that it cannot pass it: and though the waves thereof toss themselves, yet can they not prevail; though they roar, yet can they not pass over it?

23 그러나 이 백성은 반항하고 반역적인 마음을 지녔도다. 그들은 반란을 일으키고 가 버렸도다.

23 But this people hath a revolting and a rebellious heart; they are revolted and gone.

24 또한 그들은 자신들의 마음속에 이같이 말하지 아니하나니, “우리가 이제 주 우리 하나님을 두려워하자. 그분께서는 먼저 내리는 비와 나중에 내리는 비를 그분의 시기에 주시는 분이시라. 그분께서 우리에게 정해진 수확의 주간들을 따로 남겨 두시는도다.” 하지 아니하는도다.

24 Neither say they in their heart, Let us now fear the LORD our God, that giveth rain, both the former and the latter, in his season: he reserveth unto us the appointed weeks of the harvest.

25 ¶ 너희의 죄악들이 이런 것들을 다른 데로 돌렸고 너희의 죄들이 선한 것들을 너희에게 불허하였도다.

25 ¶ Your iniquities have turned away these things, and your sins have withholden good things from you.

26 이는 나의 백성 가운데 사악한 사람들이 발견되었기 때문이라. 그들은 올무들을 설치하는 자같이 숨어 기다리나니, 그들은 함정을 설치하고, 그들은 사람들을 포획하는도다.

26 For among my people are found wicked men: they lay wait, as he that setteth snares; they set a trap, they catch men.

27 새장에 새들이 가득한 것같이 그들의 집들은 이처럼 속임수로 가득하도다. 그러므로 그들은 창대해졌고 부유해졌도다.

27 As a cage is full of birds, so are their houses full of deceit: therefore they are become great, and waxen rich.

28 그들은 기름지게 되었나니, 그들은 윤이 나는도다. 진정 사악한 자의 행실들은 그들이 보고도 넘어가는도다. 그들은 송사를 재판하지 아니하나니, 곧 아버지 없는 자들의 송사로다. 그럼에도 그들이 번영하는도다. 그런즉 그들은 빈곤한 자들의 권리를 재판하지 아니하는도다.

28 They are waxen fat, they shine: yea, they overpass the deeds of the wicked: they judge not the cause, the cause of the fatherless, yet they prosper; and the right of the needy do they not judge.

29 내가 이런 것들로 인하여 벌하지 아니하겠느냐? 주가 말하노라. 그리고 나의 혼이 이와 같은 민족에게 복수가 이루어지게 하지 않겠느냐?

29 Shall I not visit for these things? saith the LORD: shall not my soul be avenged on such a nation as this?

30 ¶ 그 지역 가운데 기이하고 끔찍한 일이 저질러지는도다.

30 ¶ A wonderful and horrible thing is committed in the land;

31 예언자들은 거짓되이 예언하고 제사장들은 그들의 방식대로 다스리는도다. 나의 백성은 그렇게 하는 것을 사랑하니, 그것의 끝에는 너희가 무엇을 하겠느냐?

31 The prophets prophesy falsely, and the priests bear rule by their means; and my people love to have it so: and what will ye do in the end thereof?
