잠언 13장

1 지혜로운 아들은 자기 아버지의 훈계를 듣느니라. 그러나 경멸하는 자는 꾸짖음을 듣지 아니하느니라.

1 A wise son heareth his father's instruction: but a scorner heareth not rebuke.

2 사람은 자기 입의 열매로 좋은 것을 먹으리라. 그러나 불법자들의 혼은 폭력을 먹으리라.

2 A man shall eat good by the fruit of his mouth: but the soul of the transgressors shall eat violence.

3 자기 입을 지키는 자는 자기 생명을 지키느니라. 그러나 자기 입술을 크게 벌리는 자에게는 멸망이 있느니라.

3 He that keepeth his mouth keepeth his life: but he that openeth wide his lips shall have destruction.

4 게으른 자의 혼은 갈망하여도 아무것도 가지지 못하느니라. 그러나 부지런한 자들의 혼은 윤택해지리라.

4 The soul of the sluggard desireth, and hath nothing: but the soul of the diligent shall be made fat.

5 의로운 사람은 거짓말을 증오하느니라. 그러나 사악한 사람은 역겨우며 수치에 이르느니라.

5 A righteous man hateth lying: but a wicked man is loathsome, and cometh to shame.

6 의는 그 길 가운데서 올바른 자를 지키느니라. 그러나 사악함은 죄인을 괴멸시키느니라.

6 Righteousness keepeth him that is upright in the way: but wickedness overthroweth the sinner.

7 자신을 부유하게 만들어도 여전히 아무것도 없는 자가 있느니라. 자신을 가난하게 만들어도 여전히 대단한 재물들을 가진 자가 있느니라.

7 There is that maketh himself rich, yet hath nothing: there is that maketh himself poor, yet hath great riches.

8 사람의 생명의 속량 값은 그의 재물들이라. 그러나 가난한 자는 꾸짖음을 듣지 아니하느니라.

8 The ransom of a man's life are his riches: but the poor heareth not rebuke.

9 의로운 자들의 빛은 크게 기뻐하느니라. 그러나 사악한 자들의 등불은 꺼지리라.

9 The light of the righteous rejoiceth: but the lamp of the wicked shall be put out.

10 오직 교만에 의해서만 다툼이 오느니라. 그러나 충고를 잘 받아들인 자들에게는 지혜가 있느니라.

10 Only by pride cometh contention: but with the well advised is wisdom.

11 헛된 것으로 얻은 부는 감소하리라. 그러나 수고하여 모으는 자는 부를 늘려 가리라.

11 Wealth gotten by vanity shall be diminished: but he that gathereth by labour shall increase.

12 소망이 뒤로 미루어지는 것은 마음을 병들게 하느니라. 그러나 열망하는 것이 이를 때 그것은 생명나무니라.

12 Hope deferred maketh the heart sick: but when the desire cometh, it is a tree of life.

13 말씀을 멸시하는 자는 누구나 멸망하리라. 그러나 명령을 두려워하는 자는 보상을 받으리라.

13 Whoso despiseth the word shall be destroyed: but he that feareth the commandment shall be rewarded.

14 지혜로운 자의 법은 생명의 원천이요, 죽음의 올무들에서 떠나게 하는 것이라.

14 The law of the wise is a fountain of life, to depart from the snares of death.

15 좋은 명철은 호의를 주느니라. 그러나 불법자들의 길은 험하니라.

15 Good understanding giveth favour: but the way of transgressors is hard.

16 신중한 사람마다 지식을 다루느니라. 그러나 어리석은 자는 자신의 어리석음을 드러내느니라.

16 Every prudent man dealeth with knowledge: but a fool layeth open his folly.

17 사악한 전령은 해로움 속에 빠지느니라. 그러나 신실한 대사는 건강이니라.

17 A wicked messenger falleth into mischief: but a faithful ambassador is health.

18 빈궁과 수치가 훈계를 거부하는 자에게 있으리라. 그러나 책망을 유념하는 자는 존경을 받으리라.

18 Poverty and shame shall be to him that refuseth instruction: but he that regardeth reproof shall be honoured.

19 성취된 열망은 혼에 달콤하니라. 그러나 악에서 떠나는 것은 어리석은 자들에게 가증함이라.

19 The desire accomplished is sweet to the soul: but it is abomination to fools to depart from evil.

20 지혜로운 사람들과 동행하는 자는 지혜로워지리라. 그러나 어리석은 자들의 벗은 멸망하리라.

20 He that walketh with wise men shall be wise: but a companion of fools shall be destroyed.

21 악이 죄인들을 추격하느니라. 그러나 의로운 자들에게는 선이 되갚아지리라.

21 Evil pursueth sinners: but to the righteous good shall be repayed.

22 선한 사람은 그의 자녀들의 자녀들에게 유산을 남기느니라. 그리고 죄인의 부는 의인을 위하여 쌓이느니라.

22 A good man leaveth an inheritance to his children's children: and the wealth of the sinner is laid up for the just.

23 많은 양식이 가난한 자의 경작지 안에 있느니라. 그러나 공의의 부족으로 인하여 멸망하게 되는 일이 있느니라.

23 Much food is in the tillage of the poor: but there is that is destroyed for want of judgment.

24 자신의 회초리를 아끼는 자는 그의 아들을 증오하는 것이라. 그러나 그를 사랑하는 자는 알맞은 때에 징계하느니라.

24 He that spareth his rod hateth his son: but he that loveth him chasteneth him betimes.

25 의로운 자는 자기 혼을 만족시키도록 먹느니라. 그러나 사악한 자들의 배는 굶주리리라.

25 The righteous eateth to the satisfying of his soul: but the belly of the wicked shall want.
