잠언 9장

1 지혜가 그녀의 집을 건축하였나니, 그녀는 자신의 일곱 기둥들을 깎아 만들었도다.

1 Wisdom hath builded her house, she hath hewn out her seven pillars:

2 그녀는 자기 짐승들을 잡았고, 그녀가 자기 포도즙을 섞었으며, 그녀가 또한 자기 식탁을 차려 놓았느니라.

2 She hath killed her beasts; she hath mingled her wine; she hath also furnished her table.

3 그녀가 자신의 시녀들을 파송하였도다. 그녀가 그 도시의 가장 높은 곳들 위에서 부르짖기를,

3 She hath sent forth her maidens: she crieth upon the highest places of the city,

4 “누구나 우매한 자는 여기로 돌이킬지어다.” 하는도다. 명철이 부족한 자에 관해서는 그녀가 그에게 이같이 말하느니라.

4 Whoso is simple, let him turn in hither: as for him that wanteth understanding, she saith to him,

5 “오라, 나의 빵을 먹고 내가 섞은 포도즙을 마시라.

5 Come, eat of my bread, and drink of the wine which I have mingled.

6 어리석은 것을 버리고 살라. 그리하여 명철의 길 가운데로 가라.”

6 Forsake the foolish, and live; and go in the way of understanding.

7 경멸하는 자를 책망하는 자는 자신에게 수치를 가져오나니, 사악한 사람을 꾸짖는 자는 자신에게 오점을 남기느니라.

7 He that reproveth a scorner getteth to himself shame: and he that rebuketh a wicked man getteth himself a blot.

8 경멸하는 자를 책망하지 말라. 그가 너를 증오할까 함이라. 지혜로운 사람을 꾸짖으라. 그리하면 그가 너를 사랑하리라.

8 Reprove not a scorner, lest he hate thee: rebuke a wise man, and he will love thee.

9 지혜로운 사람에게 훈계를 주라. 그리하면 그가 더욱 더 지혜로워지리라. 의인을 가르치라. 그리하면 그가 학식을 늘리리라.

9 Give instruction to a wise man, and he will be yet wiser: teach a just man, and he will increase in learning.

10 주를 두려워하는 것이 지혜의 시작이요, 거룩한 것들에 대한 지식이 명철이라.

10 The fear of the LORD is the beginning of wisdom: and the knowledge of the holy is understanding.

11 이는 나를 통하여 너의 날들이 많아질 것이요, 너의 생명의 연수가 늘어날 것이기 때문이라.

11 For by me thy days shall be multiplied, and the years of thy life shall be increased.

12 만일 네가 지혜로우면 너는 너 자신을 위하여 지혜롭게 되리라. 그러나 만일 네가 경멸한다면 너는 홀로 그것을 짊어지리라.

12 If thou be wise, thou shalt be wise for thyself: but if thou scornest, thou alone shalt bear it.

13 어리석은 여자는 야단스러우니라. 그녀는 우매하여 아무것도 모르느니라.

13 A foolish woman is clamorous: she is simple, and knoweth nothing.

14 이는 그녀가 자기 집 문에 앉고, 도시의 높은 곳들 안에 있는 자리 위에 앉아서

14 For she sitteth at the door of her house, on a seat in the high places of the city,

15 자기 길들을 바르게 가는 행인들을 불러 말하기를,

15 To call passengers who go right on their ways:

16 “우매한 자는 누구나 여기로 돌이킬지어다.” 하기 때문이라. 그리고 명철이 부족한 자로 말하자면 그녀가 그에게 말하기를,

16 Whoso is simple, let him turn in hither: and as for him that wanteth understanding, she saith to him,

17 “도둑질한 물들이 달고 몰래 먹는 빵이 맛있도다.” 하느니라.

17 Stolen waters are sweet, and bread eaten in secret is pleasant.

18 그러나 그는 죽은 자들이 거기에 있다는 것을 모르느니라. 그런즉 그녀의 객들은 지옥의 깊은 곳들 속에 있느니라.

18 But he knoweth not that the dead are there; and that her guests are in the depths of hell.
