잠언 6장

1 나의 아들아, 만일 네가 너의 친구를 위하여 보증인이 되고, 네가 어떤 타국인과 너의 손을 마주쳤다면

1 My son, if thou be surety for thy friend, if thou hast stricken thy hand with a stranger,

2 너는 너의 입의 말들로 올무에 걸렸으니, 너는 너의 입의 말들로 붙잡힌 것이라.

2 Thou art snared with the words of thy mouth, thou art taken with the words of thy mouth.

3 나의 아들아, 이제 이렇게 하라. 그리하여 네가 너의 친구의 손안에 들어왔을 때 너 자신을 구출하라. 가라, 스스로 겸손히 하고 너의 친구에게 확실히 해 두라.

3 Do this now, my son, and deliver thyself, when thou art come into the hand of thy friend; go, humble thyself, and make sure thy friend.

4 너의 두 눈을 잠에게 내주지 말며, 너의 두 눈꺼풀도 졸음에 내주지 말라.

4 Give not sleep to thine eyes, nor slumber to thine eyelids.

5 노루가 사냥꾼의 손에서 벗어나듯이, 또 새가 새 사냥꾼의 손에서 벗어나듯이 너 자신을 구출하라.

5 Deliver thyself as a roe from the hand of the hunter, and as a bird from the hand of the fowler.

6 ¶ 너, 게으른 자여, 개미에게로 가서 그녀의 길들을 숙고하고 지혜롭게 되라.

6 ¶ Go to the ant, thou sluggard; consider her ways, and be wise:

7 개미는 안내자나 감독자나 치리자도 없으나

7 Which having no guide, overseer, or ruler,

8 여름에 그녀의 음식을 마련하며 수확기에 그녀의 양식을 모으느니라.

8 Provideth her meat in the summer, and gathereth her food in the harvest.

9 오, 게으른 자여, 네가 얼마나 오랫동안 자겠느냐? 네가 언제 너의 잠에서 일어나겠느냐?

9 How long wilt thou sleep, O sluggard? when wilt thou arise out of thy sleep?

10 네가 “좀 더 자자, 좀 더 졸자, 두 손을 모으고 좀 더 자자.” 하는도다.

10 Yet a little sleep, a little slumber, a little folding of the hands to sleep:

11 그렇게 하면 너의 빈궁이 여행하는 자같이 올 것이요, 너의 궁핍이 무장된 사람같이 오리라.

11 So shall thy poverty come as one that travelleth, and thy want as an armed man.

12 ¶ 행실이 나쁜 인물, 곧 사악한 사람은 왜곡된 입과 동행하느니라.

12 ¶ A naughty person, a wicked man, walketh with a froward mouth.

13 그는 자신의 두 눈으로 눈짓하고, 그는 자신의 두 발로 이야기하며, 그는 자신의 손가락들로 가르치느니라.

13 He winketh with his eyes, he speaketh with his feet, he teacheth with his fingers;

14 왜곡됨이 그의 마음속에 있나니, 그는 지속적으로 해로움을 고안하느니라. 그는 불화를 뿌리느니라.

14 Frowardness is in his heart, he deviseth mischief continually; he soweth discord.

15 그러므로 그의 재난이 갑작스럽게 오리라. 그는 대책도 없이 갑작스럽게 부서지리라.

15 Therefore shall his calamity come suddenly; suddenly shall he be broken without remedy.

16 ¶ 이 여섯을 주께서 증오하시나니, 진정 그분께 가증한 것이 일곱이 있도다.

16 ¶ These six things doth the LORD hate: yea, seven are an abomination unto him:

17 곧, 교만한 시선과 거짓말하는 혀와 무고한 피를 흘리는 손들과

17 A proud look, a lying tongue, and hands that shed innocent blood,

18 사악한 상상들을 고안하는 마음과 가해로 달려가는 데에 빠른 발들과

18 An heart that deviseth wicked imaginations, feet that be swift in running to mischief,

19 거짓말들을 하는 거짓 증인과 형제들 가운데 불화를 뿌리는 자니라.

19 A false witness that speaketh lies, and he that soweth discord among brethren.

20 ¶ 나의 아들아, 너의 아버지의 명령을 지키고 너의 어머니의 법을 저버리지 말라.

20 ¶ My son, keep thy father's commandment, and forsake not the law of thy mother:

21 그것들을 지속적으로 너의 마음 위에 묶어 두며, 그것들을 너의 목 주위에 매라.

21 Bind them continually upon thine heart, and tie them about thy neck.

22 네가 다닐 때면 그것이 너를 이끌 것이요, 네가 잠들 때면 그것이 너를 지킬 것이요, 네가 깨어날 때면 그것이 너와 대화하리라.

22 When thou goest, it shall lead thee; when thou sleepest, it shall keep thee; and when thou awakest, it shall talk with thee.

23 이는 그 명령은 등불이요, 그 법은 빛이며, 훈계의 책망들은 생명의 길이기 때문이라.

23 For the commandment is a lamp; and the law is light; and reproofs of instruction are the way of life:

24 이는 너를 악한 여자로부터, 타국 여자의 혀의 아첨으로부터 지키기 위함이라.

24 To keep thee from the evil woman, from the flattery of the tongue of a strange woman.

25 그녀의 아름다움을 좇아 너의 마음속에 정욕을 품지 말라. 그녀로 하여금 자신의 두 눈꺼풀로 너를 붙잡지도 못하게 하라.

25 Lust not after her beauty in thine heart; neither let her take thee with her eyelids.

26 이는 창녀 같은 여자에 의하여 남자는 한 조각 빵만 남는 신세로 전락하기 때문이라. 그런즉 간음하는 여자는 귀한 생명을 사냥할 것이라.

26 For by means of a whorish woman a man is brought to a piece of bread: and the adulteress will hunt for the precious life.

27 사람이 그의 품속에 불을 품었는데 그의 옷이 타지 않을 수 있겠느냐?

27 Can a man take fire in his bosom, and his clothes not be burned?

28 누군가 뜨거운 숯들 위를 다니는데 그의 두 발이 타지 않을 수 있겠느냐?

28 Can one go upon hot coals, and his feet not be burned?

29 자기 이웃의 아내에게 들어가는 자가 그러하도다. 누구든지 그녀를 건드리는 자는 무죄하지 아니하리라.

29 So he that goeth in to his neighbour's wife; whosoever toucheth her shall not be innocent.

30 만일 어떤 도둑이 그가 배가 고플 때 자기 혼을 만족시키려고 도둑질을 하였다면 사람들이 그를 멸시하지 아니하느니라.

30 Men do not despise a thief, if he steal to satisfy his soul when he is hungry;

31 그러나 만일 그가 발각된다면 그는 일곱 배로 되갚아야 하리니, 그는 자기 집의 모든 재물을 내어 주어야 하리라.

31 But if he be found, he shall restore sevenfold; he shall give all the substance of his house.

32 그러나 누구든지 여자와 간음하는 자는 명철이 부족하니라. 간음을 행하는 자는 자기 자신의 혼을 멸망하게 하느니라.

32 But whoso committeth adultery with a woman lacketh understanding: he that doeth it destroyeth his own soul.

33 그는 상처와 불명예를 얻을 것이요, 그의 치욕은 지워지지 아니하리라.

33 A wound and dishonour shall he get; and his reproach shall not be wiped away.

34 이는 질투가 남자의 분개함이기 때문이라. 그러므로 복수의 날에 그가 봐주지 아니하리라.

34 For jealousy is the rage of a man: therefore he will not spare in the day of vengeance.

35 그는 어떤 속량 값도 개의치 아니할 것이요, 네가 많은 선물들을 주어도 그는 만족해하지 아니하리라.

35 He will not regard any ransom; neither will he rest content, though thou givest many gifts.
