잠언 25장
1 이것들도 솔로몬의 잠언이요, 유다 왕 히스키야의 사람들이 필사한 것이라.
1 These are also proverbs of Solomon, which the men of Hezekiah king of Judah copied out.
2 일을 숨기는 것은 하나님의 영광이라. 그러나 사안을 탐구하여 찾아내는 것은 왕들의 영예라.
2 It is the glory of God to conceal a thing: but the honour of kings is to search out a matter.
3 하늘의 높이와 땅의 깊이와 왕들의 마음은 헤아릴 수 없느니라.
3 The heaven for height, and the earth for depth, and the heart of kings is unsearchable.
4 은에서 찌꺼기를 제거하라. 그리하면 정제사로 인하여 그릇이 나오리라.
4 Take away the dross from the silver, and there shall come forth a vessel for the finer.
5 왕 앞에서 사악한 자를 제거하라. 그리하면 그의 보좌가 의 안에서 확고히 세워지리라.
5 Take away the wicked from before the king, and his throne shall be established in righteousness.
6 왕의 면전에서 너희 자신을 드러내지 말고 위대한 사람들의 위치에 서지 말라.
6 Put not forth thyself in the presence of the king, and stand not in the place of great men:
7 이는 “이리 올라오라.” 하는 말이 너에게 주어지는 것이 너의 두 눈이 보던 통치자의 면전에서 네가 낮춰지는 것보다 낫기 때문이라.
7 For better it is that it be said unto thee, Come up hither; than that thou shouldest be put lower in the presence of the prince whom thine eyes have seen.
8 분쟁하려고 서둘러 나가지 말라. 이는 그 분쟁의 끝에서 네가 어찌할 줄 모를까 함이니, 곧 너의 이웃이 너를 수치스럽게 할 때라.
8 Go not forth hastily to strive, lest thou know not what to do in the end thereof, when thy neighbour hath put thee to shame.
9 너의 송사를 너의 이웃과 직접 논하고 비밀을 다른 이에게 드러내지 말라.
9 Debate thy cause with thy neighbour himself; and discover not a secret to another:
10 이는 그것을 듣는 자가 너를 수치스럽게 할까 함이며, 너의 악명이 떠나지 아니할까 함이라.
10 Lest he that heareth it put thee to shame, and thine infamy turn not away.
11 적합하게 언급된 말은 은 그림들 속에 있는 금 사과들 같으니라.
11 A word fitly spoken is like apples of gold in pictures of silver.
12 순종하는 귀에 지혜롭게 책망하는 자는 금 귀고리와 정금 장식 같으니라.
12 As an earring of gold, and an ornament of fine gold, so is a wise reprover upon an obedient ear.
13 신실한 전령은 그를 보낸 자들에게 마치 수확기에 눈의 차가움과 같으니라. 이는 그가 그의 주인들의 혼을 시원하게 하기 때문이라.
13 As the cold of snow in the time of harvest, so is a faithful messenger to them that send him: for he refresheth the soul of his masters.
14 거짓 은사를 스스로 자랑하는 자는 누구나 비 없는 구름들과 바람 같으니라.
14 Whoso boasteth himself of a false gift is like clouds and wind without rain.
15 오래 감내함으로 통치자가 설득되나니, 부드러운 혀가 뼈를 꺾느니라.
15 By long forbearing is a prince persuaded, and a soft tongue breaketh the bone.
16 네가 꿀을 발견하였느냐? 너에게 충분한 만큼만 먹으라. 이는 네가 그것으로 배가 채워져서 그것을 토할까 함이라.
16 Hast thou found honey? eat so much as is sufficient for thee, lest thou be filled therewith, and vomit it.
17 너의 이웃집에서 너의 발을 빼라. 그가 너에게 싫증이 나서 너를 증오할까 함이라.
17 Withdraw thy foot from thy neighbour's house; lest he be weary of thee, and so hate thee.
18 자기 이웃을 대적하여 거짓 증거하는 사람은 큰 망치요, 칼이요, 날카로운 화살이라.
18 A man that beareth false witness against his neighbour is a maul, and a sword, and a sharp arrow.
19 곤경의 때에 신실하지 않은 사람을 신용하는 것은 부러진 이와 탈골된 발 같으니라.
19 Confidence in an unfaithful man in time of trouble is like a broken tooth, and a foot out of joint.
20 추운 날씨에 의복을 빼앗아 가는 자같이, 초석 위에 부어진 식초같이, 마음이 무거운 자에게 노래들을 부르는 자도 그러하도다.
20 As he that taketh away a garment in cold weather, and as vinegar upon nitre, so is he that singeth songs to an heavy heart.
21 만일 너의 원수가 굶주리거든 그에게 먹을 빵을 주라. 그리고 만일 그가 목마르거든 그에게 마실 물을 주라.
21 If thine enemy be hungry, give him bread to eat; and if he be thirsty, give him water to drink:
22 이는 네가 그의 머리 위에 숯불들을 쌓을 것이요, 주께서 너에게 보상하실 것이기 때문이라.
22 For thou shalt heap coals of fire upon his head, and the LORD shall reward thee.
23 북풍이 비를 몰아내나니, 화난 안색이 험담하는 혀를 그와 같이 몰아내느니라.
23 The north wind driveth away rain: so doth an angry countenance a backbiting tongue.
24 넓은 집 안에서 말싸움하는 여자와 함께 있는 것보다 옥상의 모퉁이에 거하는 것이 나으니라.
24 It is better to dwell in the corner of the housetop, than with a brawling woman and in a wide house.
25 목마른 혼에게 냉수들같이, 먼 나라에서 오는 좋은 소식도 그러하도다.
25 As cold waters to a thirsty soul, so is good news from a far country.
26 의로운 사람이 사악한 자 앞에서 굴복하는 것은 마치 혼탁한 샘터와 부패한 샘 같으니라.
26 A righteous man falling down before the wicked is as a troubled fountain, and a corrupt spring.
27 많은 꿀을 먹는 것은 좋지 않으니, 이처럼 사람들이 그들 자신의 영광을 찾아다니는 것은 영광이 아니니라.
27 It is not good to eat much honey: so for men to search their own glory is not glory.
28 자기 자신의 영을 다스리지 않는 자는 무너져 내려 성벽들이 없는 도시 같으니라.
28 He that hath no rule over his own spirit is like a city that is broken down, and without walls.
