잠언 26장
1 여름에 눈같이, 수확기에 비같이, 이처럼 어리석은 자에게는 명예가 어울리지 않느니라.
1 As snow in summer, and as rain in harvest, so honour is not seemly for a fool.
2 새가 떠돌아다니듯이, 제비가 날아가듯이, 이처럼 까닭 없는 저주도 임하지 아니하리라.
2 As the bird by wandering, as the swallow by flying, so the curse causeless shall not come.
3 말에게는 말채찍이요, 나귀에게는 재갈이요, 어리석은 자의 등에는 회초리라.
3 A whip for the horse, a bridle for the ass, and a rod for the fool's back.
4 어리석은 자에게 그의 어리석음에 따라 대답하지 말라. 너도 그와 같아질까 함이라.
4 Answer not a fool according to his folly, lest thou also be like unto him.
5 어리석은 자에게 그의 어리석음에 따라 대답하라. 그가 자기 자신의 망상 속에서 지혜롭게 될까 함이라.
5 Answer a fool according to his folly, lest he be wise in his own conceit.
6 어리석은 자의 손을 통하여 전언을 보내는 자는 두 발을 잘라내고 손해를 마시느니라.
6 He that sendeth a message by the hand of a fool cutteth off the feet, and drinketh damage.
7 절뚝거리는 자의 두 다리는 대등하지 않으니, 어리석은 자들의 입안에 있는 비유도 그러하니라.
7 The legs of the lame are not equal: so is a parable in the mouth of fools.
8 무릿매에 돌을 매다는 자같이 어리석은 자에게 명예를 주는 자도 그러하니라.
8 As he that bindeth a stone in a sling, so is he that giveth honour to a fool.
9 가시나무가 술주정뱅이의 손에 들려 올라가는 것같이 어리석은 자들의 입안에 있는 비유도 그러하니라.
9 As a thorn goeth up into the hand of a drunkard, so is a parable in the mouth of fools.
10 만물을 형성하신 위대하신 하나님께서는 어리석은 자에게도 보응하시고 불법자들에게도 보응하시느니라.
10 The great God that formed all things both rewardeth the fool, and rewardeth transgressors.
11 개가 그의 토사물로 되돌아가듯이 이처럼 어리석은 자도 자신의 어리석음으로 되돌아가느니라.
11 As a dog returneth to his vomit, so a fool returneth to his folly.
12 네가 자기 자신의 망상 속에서 지혜롭게 된 사람을 보느냐? 그보다는 어리석은 자에게 더 소망이 있느니라.
12 Seest thou a man wise in his own conceit? there is more hope of a fool than of him.
13 게으른 사람은 말하기를, “길에 사자가 있도다. 거리들에 사자가 있도다.” 하느니라.
13 The slothful man saith, There is a lion in the way; a lion is in the streets.
14 문짝이 그의 경첩들에서 돌듯이 게으른 자도 그의 침상 위에서 그리하느니라.
14 As the door turneth upon his hinges, so doth the slothful upon his bed.
15 게으른 자는 그의 손을 자기 품속에 숨기나니, 그것을 다시 자기 입으로 가져오는 것이 그를 괴롭게 하느니라.
15 The slothful hideth his hand in his bosom; it grieveth him to bring it again to his mouth.
16 게으른 자는 이유를 댈 수 있는 일곱 사람들보다 자기 자신의 망상 속에서 더 지혜롭게 되느니라.
16 The sluggard is wiser in his own conceit than seven men that can render a reason.
17 지나다니면서 자신에게 속하지 않는 분쟁에 간섭하는 자는 개의 두 귀를 잡는 이와 같으니라.
17 He that passeth by, and meddleth with strife belonging not to him, is like one that taketh a dog by the ears.
18 불붙은 나뭇조각들과 화살들과 죽음을 던지는 미친 사람같이,
18 As a mad man who casteth firebrands, arrows, and death,
19 자기 이웃을 속이며 말하기를, “내가 장난하는 것이 아니냐?” 하는 사람도 그러하니라.
19 So is the man that deceiveth his neighbour, and saith, Am not I in sport?
20 장작이 없는 곳에는 불이 꺼지느니라. 이처럼 소문을 퍼뜨리는 자가 없는 곳에도 다툼이 그치느니라.
20 Where no wood is, there the fire goeth out: so where there is no talebearer, the strife ceaseth.
21 불타는 숯들에 숯들을 넣고 불에 장작을 넣는 것같이, 이처럼 다투기를 좋아하는 사람은 분쟁에 불을 붙이느니라.
21 As coals are to burning coals, and wood to fire; so is a contentious man to kindle strife.
22 소문을 퍼뜨리는 자의 말들은 상처들과 같나니, 그것들은 뱃속 가장 깊은 부분들 속으로 내려가느니라.
22 The words of a talebearer are as wounds, and they go down into the innermost parts of the belly.
23 불타는 입술과 사악한 마음은 은 찌꺼기로 덮인 질그릇 조각 같으니라.
23 Burning lips and a wicked heart are like a potsherd covered with silver dross.
24 증오하는 자는 자기 입술로 의도를 숨기고 자기 속에 속임수를 쌓아 올리느니라.
24 He that hateth dissembleth with his lips, and layeth up deceit within him;
25 그가 그럴듯한 말을 할 때 그를 믿지 말라. 이는 그의 마음속에 일곱 가지 가증함들이 있기 때문이라.
25 When he speaketh fair, believe him not: for there are seven abominations in his heart.
26 그의 증오는 속임수로 덮여 있나니, 그의 사악함은 온 회중 앞에 보여지리라.
26 Whose hatred is covered by deceit, his wickedness shall be shewed before the whole congregation.
27 구렁을 파는 자는 누구나 그 안에 빠질 것이요, 돌을 굴리는 자는 그것이 그의 위에 되돌아오리라.
27 Whoso diggeth a pit shall fall therein: and he that rolleth a stone, it will return upon him.
28 거짓말하는 혀는 그것에 의하여 고난받는 자들을 증오하느니라. 그리고 아첨하는 입은 몰락을 이루느니라.
28 A lying tongue hateth those that are afflicted by it; and a flattering mouth worketh ruin.
