잠언 22장

1 엄청난 재물들보다 오히려 좋은 이름이 선택되어야 하며, 은과 금보다 오히려 애정 어린 호의가 선택되어야 하느니라.

1 A good name is rather to be chosen than great riches, and loving favour rather than silver and gold.

2 부자와 가난한 자가 함께 만나나니, 주께서는 그들 모두를 만드신 분이시라.

2 The rich and poor meet together: the LORD is the maker of them all.

3 신중한 사람은 해악을 미리 보고 자신을 숨기느니라. 그러나 우매한 자들은 계속 나아가다가 형벌을 받느니라.

3 A prudent man foreseeth the evil, and hideth himself: but the simple pass on, and are punished.

4 겸손과, 주를 두려워함에 의하여 재물들과 영예와 생명이 있느니라.

4 By humility and the fear of the LORD are riches, and honour, and life.

5 왜곡된 자의 길에는 가시들과 올무들이 있느니라. 자기 혼을 지키는 자는 그것들로부터 멀리 있으리라.

5 Thorns and snares are in the way of the froward: he that doth keep his soul shall be far from them.

6 아이를 그가 마땅히 가야할 길로 훈련시키라. 그리하면 그는 자신이 늙었을 때도 그 길에서 떠나지 아니하리라.

6 Train up a child in the way he should go: and when he is old, he will not depart from it.

7 부자는 가난한 자들을 다스리고 빌린 자는 빌려 준 자의 종이니라.

7 The rich ruleth over the poor, and the borrower is servant to the lender.

8 죄악을 뿌리는 자는 헛된 것을 거두리라. 그리고 그의 분노의 막대기는 쇠하리라.

8 He that soweth iniquity shall reap vanity: and the rod of his anger shall fail.

9 후한 눈을 가진 자는 복을 받으리라. 이는 그가 자신의 빵을 가난한 자에게 주기 때문이라.

9 He that hath a bountiful eye shall be blessed; for he giveth of his bread to the poor.

10 경멸하는 자를 쫓아내라. 그리하면 다툼도 나가리라. 진정 분쟁과 비방이 그치리라.

10 Cast out the scorner, and contention shall go out; yea, strife and reproach shall cease.

11 마음의 순수함을 사랑하는 자는 그의 입술의 은혜로 인하여 왕이 그의 친구가 되리라.

11 He that loveth pureness of heart, for the grace of his lips the king shall be his friend.

12 주의 눈들은 지식을 보존하나니, 그분께서 불법을 행하는 자의 말들을 뒤집어엎으시느니라.

12 The eyes of the LORD preserve knowledge, and he overthroweth the words of the transgressor.

13 게으른 사람이 말하기를, “사자가 밖에 있으니, 나는 거리들에서 살해당하리라.” 하느니라.

13 The slothful man saith, There is a lion without, I shall be slain in the streets.

14 타국 여자들의 입은 깊은 구렁이라. 주께 혐오를 받는 자는 그 안에 빠지리라.

14 The mouth of strange women is a deep pit: he that is abhorred of the LORD shall fall therein.

15 아이의 마음속에는 어리석음이 매여 있느니라. 그러나 바로잡음의 회초리가 그에게서 그것을 멀리 몰아내리라.

15 Foolishness is bound in the heart of a child; but the rod of correction shall drive it far from him.

16 자신의 재산들을 증식시키려고 가난한 자를 압제하는 자와 부자에게 주는 자는 반드시 궁핍에 이르리라.

16 He that oppresseth the poor to increase his riches, and he that giveth to the rich, shall surely come to want.

17 너의 귀를 기울여 지혜로운 자들의 말들을 들으라. 그리고 나의 지식에 너의 마음을 쓰라.

17 Bow down thine ear, and hear the words of the wise, and apply thine heart unto my knowledge.

18 이는 만일 네가 그것들을 너의 안에 간직하면 그것은 기쁜 일이기 때문이라. 그것들이 모두 너의 입술 안에 들어맞으리라.

18 For it is a pleasant thing if thou keep them within thee; they shall withal be fitted in thy lips.

19 내가 너로 하여금 너의 신뢰가 주께 있게 하려고 이날 너에게 이것을 알게 하였나니, 바로 너에게라.

19 That thy trust may be in the LORD, I have made known to thee this day, even to thee.

20 내가 조언들과 지식에 있어서 탁월한 것들을 너에게 기록한 것은,

20 Have not I written to thee excellent things in counsels and knowledge,

21 내가 진리의 말씀들의 확실함을 너에게 알게 함이요, 너에게 사람을 보내는 자들에게 네가 진리의 말씀들을 답변하게 함이 아니냐?

21 That I might make thee know the certainty of the words of truth; that thou mightest answer the words of truth to them that send unto thee?

22 가난한 자를 강탈하지 말라. 이는 그가 가난하기 때문이라. 또한 고난받는 자를 성문 안에서 압제하지 말라.

22 Rob not the poor, because he is poor: neither oppress the afflicted in the gate:

23 이는 주께서 그들의 송사를 변호하실 것이요, 그들을 해친 자들의 혼을 해치실 것이기 때문이라.

23 For the LORD will plead their cause, and spoil the soul of those that spoiled them.

24 분노하는 사람과 사귀지 말고, 광포한 사람과 함께 다니지 말지니라.

24 Make no friendship with an angry man; and with a furious man thou shalt not go:

25 이는 네가 그의 길들을 배워서 너의 혼이 올무에 걸리지 않게 하려 함이라.

25 Lest thou learn his ways, and get a snare to thy soul.

26 너는 손뼉을 마주쳐 서약하는 자들이나 빚들에 대한 보증인들이 되는 자들 중 하나가 되지 말라.

26 Be not thou one of them that strike hands, or of them that are sureties for debts.

27 만일 네게 아무런 갚을 것이 없는 경우, 어찌하여 그가 네 아래에서 너의 침상을 빼앗아 가야 하겠느냐?

27 If thou hast nothing to pay, why should he take away thy bed from under thee?

28 너의 조상들이 세워 둔 먼 옛날의 경계표를 옮기지 말라.

28 Remove not the ancient landmark, which thy fathers have set.

29 너는 자기 일에 부지런한 사람을 보느냐? 그는 왕들 앞에 설 것이요, 그는 미천한 사람들 앞에 서지 아니하리라.

29 Seest thou a man diligent in his business? he shall stand before kings; he shall not stand before mean men.
