잠언 29장
1 자주 책망을 받으면서도 자신의 고개를 꼿꼿하게 하는 자는 갑작스럽게 멸망하리니, 치유책이 없으리라.
1 He, that being often reproved hardeneth his neck, shall suddenly be destroyed, and that without remedy.
2 의로운 자들이 권위를 가질 때 백성은 크게 기뻐하느니라. 그러나 사악한 자들이 다스릴 때 백성은 애곡하느니라.
2 When the righteous are in authority, the people rejoice: but when the wicked beareth rule, the people mourn.
3 누구나 지혜를 사랑하는 자는 자기 아버지를 크게 기쁘게 하느니라. 그러나 창녀들과 사귀는 자는 그의 재물을 탕진하느니라.
3 Whoso loveth wisdom rejoiceth his father: but he that keepeth company with harlots spendeth his substance.
4 왕은 공의로 그 지역을 확고히 세우느니라. 그러나 뇌물들을 받는 자는 그곳을 뒤집어엎느니라.
4 The king by judgment establisheth the land: but he that receiveth gifts overthroweth it.
5 자기 이웃에게 아첨하는 사람은 그의 두 발에 그물을 펴느니라.
5 A man that flattereth his neighbour spreadeth a net for his feet.
6 악인의 불법 안에는 올무가 있느니라. 그러나 의로운 자는 노래하고 크게 기뻐하느니라.
6 In the transgression of an evil man there is a snare: but the righteous doth sing and rejoice.
7 의로운 자는 가난한 자들의 송사를 숙고하느니라. 그러나 사악한 자는 그것을 알려고 유념하지 않느니라.
7 The righteous considereth the cause of the poor: but the wicked regardeth not to know it.
8 경멸하는 사람들은 도시를 올무에 걸리게 하느니라. 그러나 지혜로운 사람들은 진노를 돌이키느니라.
8 Scornful men bring a city into a snare: but wise men turn away wrath.
9 만일 지혜로운 사람이 어리석은 사람과 다툰다면, 그가 격정을 내든지 웃든지 안식이 전혀 없느니라.
9 If a wise man contendeth with a foolish man, whether he rage or laugh, there is no rest.
10 피에 목마른 자들은 올바른 자를 증오하느니라. 그러나 의인들은 그의 혼을 찾느니라.
10 The bloodthirsty hate the upright: but the just seek his soul.
11 어리석은 자는 자신의 모든 생각을 발설하느니라. 그러나 지혜로운 사람은 그것을 나중까지도 속에 간직하느니라.
11 A fool uttereth all his mind: but a wise man keepeth it in till afterwards.
12 만일 치리자가 거짓말들에 경청한다면 그의 모든 종들은 사악해지느니라.
12 If a ruler hearken to lies, all his servants are wicked.
13 가난한 자와 속임수로 가득한 사람이 함께 만나나니, 주께서 그들 둘 다의 눈을 밝히시느니라.
13 The poor and the deceitful man meet together: the LORD lighteneth both their eyes.
14 가난한 자들을 신실하게 재판하는 왕은 그의 보좌가 영원토록 확고해지리라.
14 The king that faithfully judgeth the poor, his throne shall be established for ever.
15 회초리와 책망은 지혜를 주느니라. 그러나 혼자 내버려진 자식은 그의 어머니에게 수치를 가져오느니라.
15 The rod and reproof give wisdom: but a child left to himself bringeth his mother to shame.
16 사악한 자들이 급증할 때 불법이 늘어나느니라. 그러나 의로운 자들은 그들의 몰락을 보리라.
16 When the wicked are multiplied, transgression increaseth: but the righteous shall see their fall.
17 너의 아들을 바로잡으라. 그리하면 그가 너에게 안식을 주리라. 진정, 그가 너의 혼에 큰 즐거움을 주리라.
17 Correct thy son, and he shall give thee rest; yea, he shall give delight unto thy soul.
18 현시가 없는 곳에서는 백성이 멸망하느니라. 그러나 율법을 지키는 자, 그는 행복하니라.
18 Where there is no vision, the people perish: but he that keepeth the law, happy is he.
19 종은 말들로 바로잡히지 아니하리라. 이는 그가 이해할지라도 그는 대답하지 아니할 것이기 때문이라.
19 A servant will not be corrected by words: for though he understand he will not answer.
20 너는 자기 말들에 성급한 사람을 보느냐? 그보다는 어리석은 자에게 더 소망이 있느니라.
20 Seest thou a man that is hasty in his words? there is more hope of a fool than of him.
21 자기 종을 아이일 때부터 자상하게 기르는 자는 결국 그를 얻어 자신의 아들이 되게 하리라.
21 He that delicately bringeth up his servant from a child shall have him become his son at the length.
22 분노하는 사람은 분쟁을 불러일으키고, 광포한 사람은 불법이 넘치느니라.
22 An angry man stirreth up strife, and a furious man aboundeth in transgression.
23 사람의 교만이 그를 낮추리라. 그러나 영예는 영 안에서 겸손한 자를 떠받치리라.
23 A man's pride shall bring him low: but honour shall uphold the humble in spirit.
24 도둑과 협력자가 되는 자는 누구나 자기 자신의 혼을 증오하느니라. 그는 저주하는 것을 들어도 그것을 폭로하지 않느니라.
24 Whoso is partner with a thief hateth his own soul: he heareth cursing, and bewrayeth it not.
25 사람을 두려워하는 것은 올무를 가져오느니라. 그러나 자신의 신뢰를 주께 두는 자는 누구나 안전하리라.
25 The fear of man bringeth a snare: but whoso putteth his trust in the LORD shall be safe.
26 많은 이가 치리자의 호의를 구하느니라. 그러나 모든 사람 각각에 대한 판단은 주께로부터 오느니라.
26 Many seek the ruler's favour; but every man's judgment cometh from the LORD.
27 부정한 사람은 의인들에게 가증함이라. 그리고 그 길 가운데서 올바른 자는 사악한 자에게 가증함이라.
27 An unjust man is an abomination to the just: and he that is upright in the way is abomination to the wicked.
