잠언 30장
1 야케의 아들 아굴의 말씀들, 곧 예언이라. 그 사람이 이디엘에게 말하였으니, 곧 이디엘과 우칼에게라.
1 The words of Agur the son of Jakeh, even the prophecy: the man spake unto Ithiel, even unto Ithiel and Ucal,
2 확실히 나는 어떤 사람보다도 더 짐승같으며, 사람의 명철이 없도다.
2 Surely I am more brutish than any man, and have not the understanding of a man.
3 나는 지혜를 배우지도 않았고, 거룩한 것들에 대한 지식도 없도다.
3 I neither learned wisdom, nor have the knowledge of the holy.
4 누가 하늘로 올라가거나 내려오셨느냐? 누가 바람을 자신의 주먹들 안에다 모으셨느냐? 누가 의복 안에 물들을 싸매셨느냐? 누가 땅의 모든 끝들을 확고히 세우셨느냐? 네가 말할 수 있다면 말하라. 그분의 이름이 무엇이며, 그분의 아들의 이름이 무엇이냐?
4 Who hath ascended up into heaven, or descended? who hath gathered the wind in his fists? who hath bound the waters in a garment? who hath established all the ends of the earth? what is his name, and what is his son's name, if thou canst tell?
5 하나님의 모든 말씀은 저마다 순결하니라. 그분께서는 자신들의 신뢰를 그분께 두는 자들에게 방패가 되시느니라.
5 Every word of God is pure: he is a shield unto them that put their trust in him.
6 너는 그분의 말씀들에 더하지 말라. 그분께서 너를 책망하실까 함이요, 네가 거짓말쟁이로 발견될까 함이라.
6 Add thou not unto his words, lest he reprove thee, and thou be found a liar.
7 제가 당신께 두 가지를 요청하나이다. 제가 죽기 전에 제게서 그것들을 거절하지 마소서.
7 Two things have I required of thee; deny me them not before I die:
8 헛된 것과 거짓말들을 제게서 멀리 옮기소서. 제게 빈궁을 주지도 마시고 재물들도 주지 마소서. 저를 위한 적절한 양식으로 저를 먹이소서.
8 Remove far from me vanity and lies: give me neither poverty nor riches; feed me with food convenient for me:
9 이는 제가 배가 불러 당신을 부인하며 말하기를, “주가 누구냐?” 할까 함이니이다. 아니면 제가 가난하여 도둑질하고 나의 하나님의 이름을 헛되이 취할까 함이니이다.
9 Lest I be full, and deny thee, and say, Who is the LORD? or lest I be poor, and steal, and take the name of my God in vain.
10 종을 그의 주인에게 고소하지 말라. 그가 너를 저주할까 함이요, 네가 유죄로 발견될까 함이라.
10 Accuse not a servant unto his master, lest he curse thee, and thou be found guilty.
11 자신들의 아버지를 저주하며 자신들의 어머니를 축복하지 않는 세대가 있느니라.
11 There is a generation that curseth their father, and doth not bless their mother.
12 그들 자신의 눈에 순결하여도 실로 자신들의 추악함에서 씻겨지지 않는 세대가 있느니라.
12 There is a generation that are pure in their own eyes, and yet is not washed from their filthiness.
13 한 세대가 있으니, 오, 그들의 눈이 얼마나 우뚝 솟아 있는가? 그런즉 그들의 눈꺼풀은 위로 들려 있도다.
13 There is a generation, O how lofty are their eyes! and their eyelids are lifted up.
14 그들의 앞니들이 칼들 같고 그들의 어금니들이 단도들 같아서 가난한 자들을 집어삼켜 땅에서 끊어 버리고, 빈곤한 자들을 집어삼켜 사람들 가운데서 끊어 버리는 세대가 있느니라.
14 There is a generation, whose teeth are as swords, and their jaw teeth as knives, to devour the poor from off the earth, and the needy from among men.
15 말거머리에게는 “주소서, 주소서.”라고 부르짖는 두 딸들이 있느니라. 결코 만족하지 않는 세 가지가 있으니, 진정 네 가지가 “충분하도다.”라고 말하지 않느니라.
15 The horseleach hath two daughters, crying, Give, give. There are three things that are never satisfied, yea, four things say not, It is enough:
16 곧, 음부요, 불임인 태요, 물로 채워지지 않는 땅이요, “충분하도다.”라고 말하지 않는 불이라.
16 The grave; and the barren womb; the earth that is not filled with water; and the fire that saith not, It is enough.
17 자기 아버지를 조롱하고 자기 어머니에게 순종하는 것을 멸시하는 눈, 그것을 골짜기의 까마귀들이 쪼아 낼 것이며, 그것을 새끼 독수리들이 먹으리라.
17 The eye that mocketh at his father, and despiseth to obey his mother, the ravens of the valley shall pick it out, and the young eagles shall eat it.
18 나에게 너무 경이로운 세 가지가 있으니, 진정 내가 모르는 네 가지가 있느니라.
18 There be three things which are too wonderful for me, yea, four which I know not:
19 곧, 공중에 있는 독수리의 길이요, 바위 위에 있는 뱀의 길이요, 바다 한가운데 있는 선박의 길이요, 여인과 함께한 남자의 길이라.
19 The way of an eagle in the air; the way of a serpent upon a rock; the way of a ship in the midst of the sea; and the way of a man with a maid.
20 간음하는 여자의 길도 그러하니라. 그녀가 먹고 자신의 입을 닦으며 말하기를, “나는 사악한 짓을 전혀 행하지 아니하였도다.” 하느니라.
20 Such is the way of an adulterous woman; she eateth, and wipeth her mouth, and saith, I have done no wickedness.
21 세 가지로 인하여 땅이 요동하고, 네 가지로 인하여 땅이 견딜 수 없느니라.
21 For three things the earth is disquieted, and for four which it cannot bear:
22 곧, 종으로 인함은 그가 군림할 때요, 어리석은 자로 인함은 그가 음식으로 채워질 때요,
22 For a servant when he reigneth; and a fool when he is filled with meat;
23 증오를 받을 만한 여자로 인함은 그녀가 시집을 갈 때요, 몸종으로 인함은 그녀가 자기 여주인의 상속자일 때라.
23 For an odious woman when she is married; and an handmaid that is heir to her mistress.
24 땅 위에서 작은 네 가지가 있으나 그것들은 지극히 지혜로우니라.
24 There be four things which are little upon the earth, but they are exceeding wise:
25 곧, 개미들은 강하지 않은 백성이나 그럼에도 그것들은 자신들의 음식을 여름에 예비하느니라.
25 The ants are a people not strong, yet they prepare their meat in the summer;
26 토끼들은 미물에 불과하나 그럼에도 그것들은 자신들의 집들을 바위들 속에 만드느니라.
26 The conies are but a feeble folk, yet make they their houses in the rocks;
27 메뚜기들은 왕이 없으나 그럼에도 그것들은 부대별로 떼를 지어 그것들 모두가 나아가느니라.
27 The locusts have no king, yet go they forth all of them by bands;
28 거미는 그녀의 손들로 지탱하여도, 왕들의 궁전들 안에 있느니라.
28 The spider taketh hold with her hands, and is in kings' palaces.
29 잘 다니는 세 가지가 있나니, 진정 멋지게 다니는 네 가지가 있느니라.
29 There be three things which go well, yea, four are comely in going:
30 곧, 짐승들 가운데 가장 강하여 어떤 것에도 물러서지 않는 사자요,
30 A lion which is strongest among beasts, and turneth not away for any;
31 그레이하운드요, 또한 숫염소라. 그리고 아무도 그를 대적하여 들고일어날 수 없는 왕이라.
31 A greyhound; an he goat also; and a king, against whom there is no rising up.
32 만일 네가 스스로를 치켜세움으로써 어리석게 행하였거나 네가 악을 생각하였다면 너의 손을 너의 입에 대라.
32 If thou hast done foolishly in lifting up thyself, or if thou hast thought evil, lay thine hand upon thy mouth.
33 확실히 젖을 젓는 것은 버터가 나오게 하고 코를 비트는 것은 피가 나오게 하느니라. 이처럼 진노를 격동하는 것은 분쟁이 나게 하느니라.
33 Surely the churning of milk bringeth forth butter, and the wringing of the nose bringeth forth blood: so the forcing of wrath bringeth forth strife.
