신명기 17장

1 너는 어떤 수송아지나 양도 그 안에 흠이 있거나 어떤 흉한 것이 있는 것은 주 너의 하나님께 희생 제물로 드리지 말지니라. 이는 그것이 주 너의 하나님께 가증함이 되기 때문이라.

1 Thou shalt not sacrifice unto the LORD thy God any bullock, or sheep, wherein is blemish, or any evilfavouredness: for that is an abomination unto the LORD thy God.

2 만일 주 너의 하나님께서 너에게 주시는 너의 성문들 중 어떤 곳 안에서 주 너의 하나님의 목전에 사악함을 행하고 그분의 언약을 위반하는 남자나 여자가 너희 가운데서 발견되는 경우,

2 If there be found among you, within any of thy gates which the LORD thy God giveth thee, man or woman, that hath wrought wickedness in the sight of the LORD thy God, in transgressing his covenant,

3 그리고 해나 달이나 하늘의 군대 중 어느 것이라도 내가 명령하지 아니한 다른 신들에게 가서 섬기고 그것들에게 경배한 경우,

3 And hath gone and served other gods, and worshipped them, either the sun, or moon, or any of the host of heaven, which I have not commanded;

4 그리고 그것이 너에게 알려져서 네가 그것에 관하여 듣고 부지런히 조사하였는데 보라, 그러한 가증함이 이스라엘에서 벌어진 것이 사실이고 명확한 사항인 경우,

4 And it be told thee, and thou hast heard of it, and enquired diligently, and, behold, it be true, and the thing certain, that such abomination is wrought in Israel:

5 그때 너는 그 사악한 짓을 저지른 그 남자나 그 여자를 너의 성문들로 끌어낼지니, 그들, 곧 그 남자나 그 여자가 죽을 때까지 그들을 돌들로 칠지니라.

5 Then shalt thou bring forth that man or that woman, which have committed that wicked thing, unto thy gates, even that man or that woman, and shalt stone them with stones, till they die.

6 죽어 마땅한 자는 두 증인이나 세 증인의 입으로 사형에 처할지니라. 그러나 증인 한 명의 입으로는 그를 사형에 처하지 말지니라.

6 At the mouth of two witnesses, or three witnesses, shall he that is worthy of death be put to death; but at the mouth of one witness he shall not be put to death.

7 먼저 증인들의 손이 그의 위에 있게 하고 그를 사형에 처할지니, 그러고 난 후에 모든 백성의 손이 사형에 참여할지니라. 그렇게 하여 너는 너희 가운데서 악을 치워 버릴지니라.

7 The hands of the witnesses shall be first upon him to put him to death, and afterward the hands of all the people. So thou shalt put the evil away from among you.

8 ¶ 만일 피와 피 사이에, 항의와 항의 사이에, 구타와 구타 사이에 네가 판단하기 너무 어려운 사건이 일어나 너의 성문들 안에서 논란거리들이 되었다면, 그때 너는 일어나 주 너의 하나님께서 선택하실 곳 안으로 올라갈지니라.

8 ¶ If there arise a matter too hard for thee in judgment, between blood and blood, between plea and plea, and between stroke and stroke, being matters of controversy within thy gates: then shalt thou arise, and get thee up into the place which the LORD thy God shall choose;

9 그러고 나서 너는 레위인들인 제사장들에게 나아가고 그 당시에 있을 판관에게 나아가서 문의할지니라. 그리하면 그들이 너에게 재판의 판결을 보여 주리라.

9 And thou shalt come unto the priests the Levites, and unto the judge that shall be in those days, and enquire; and they shall shew thee the sentence of judgment:

10 그런즉 너는 주께서 선택하실 곳에서 그들이 너에게 보여줄 판결에 따라 행할지니라. 그리고 너는 그들이 너에게 고지하는 모든 것대로 준수하여 행할지니라.

10 And thou shalt do according to the sentence, which they of that place which the LORD shall choose shall shew thee; and thou shalt observe to do according to all that they inform thee:

11 그들이 너에게 가르칠 율법의 판결에 따라, 또 그들이 너에게 말해 줄 판결에 따라 너는 실행할지니라. 너는 그들이 너에게 보여 줄 판결에서 오른편으로나 왼편으로 치우치지 말지니라.

11 According to the sentence of the law which they shall teach thee, and according to the judgment which they shall tell thee, thou shalt do: thou shalt not decline from the sentence which they shall shew thee, to the right hand, nor to the left.

12 그리고 주 너의 하나님 앞에 서서 섬기는 제사장에게나 판관에게 경청하려 하지 않고 주제넘게 행하려 하는 사람, 바로 그 사람은 죽어야 하리라. 그리하여 너는 이스라엘로부터 악을 치워 버릴지니라.

12 And the man that will do presumptuously, and will not hearken unto the priest that standeth to minister there before the LORD thy God, or unto the judge, even that man shall die: and thou shalt put away the evil from Israel.

13 그리하면 모든 백성이 듣고 두려워하며 더 이상 주제넘게 행하지 아니하리라.

13 And all the people shall hear, and fear, and do no more presumptuously.

14 ¶ 네가 주 너의 하나님께서 너에게 주시는 지역으로 와서, 그곳을 차지하고 그 안에서 거하며 말하기를, ‘내 주위에 있는 모든 민족들과 같이 나도 나를 다스릴 왕을 세우겠노라.’ 할 때면

14 ¶ When thou art come unto the land which the LORD thy God giveth thee, and shalt possess it, and shalt dwell therein, and shalt say, I will set a king over me, like as all the nations that are about me;

15 너는 기필코 주 너의 하나님께서 선택하실 자만을 너를 통솔하는 왕으로 세울지니라. 너는 너의 형제들 중에서 한 명을 너를 다스리는 왕으로 세울지니, 너는 너의 형제가 아닌 타국인을 너를 다스리도록 세우지 말지니라.

15 Thou shalt in any wise set him king over thee, whom the LORD thy God shall choose: one from among thy brethren shalt thou set king over thee: thou mayest not set a stranger over thee, which is not thy brother.

16 그러나 그 왕은 자신을 위하여 말들을 늘리지 말지니, 그는 말들을 늘리려는 취지로 백성을 이집트로 되돌아가게 하지도 말지니라. 왜냐하면 주께서 너희에게 말씀하시기를, ‘너희는 앞으로 그 길로 더 이상 되돌아가지 말지니라.’ 하셨기 때문이라.

16 But he shall not multiply horses to himself, nor cause the people to return to Egypt, to the end that he should multiply horses: forasmuch as the LORD hath said unto you, Ye shall henceforth return no more that way.

17 또한 그는 자신을 위하여 아내들을 늘리지 말지니, 그의 마음이 돌아서지 않게 하려 함이라. 또한 그는 자신을 위하여 은과 금을 막대하게 늘리지 말지니라.

17 Neither shall he multiply wives to himself, that his heart turn not away: neither shall he greatly multiply to himself silver and gold.

18 그리고 그가 자신의 왕국의 보좌 위에 앉을 때 이러한 일이 있어야 하리니, 그는 레위인들인 제사장들 앞에 있는 율법에서 이 율법의 한 사본을 한 권의 책 안에 필사하여 자신에게 둘지니라.

18 And it shall be, when he sitteth upon the throne of his kingdom, that he shall write him a copy of this law in a book out of that which is before the priests the Levites:

19 그러고 나서 그 사본은 그의 곁에 있어야 하리라. 그런즉 그는 자신의 생애의 모든 날들 동안 그 안에 있는 것을 읽을지니, 그로 하여금 주 그의 하나님을 두려워하는 것을 배우게 하여 이 율법과 이 규례들의 모든 말씀들을 지키고 그것들을 실행하게 하려 함이요,

19 And it shall be with him, and he shall read therein all the days of his life: that he may learn to fear the LORD his God, to keep all the words of this law and these statutes, to do them:

20 그의 마음이 자기 형제들 위로 치켜세워지지 않게 하려 함이며, 그로 하여금 이 명령에서 오른편으로나 왼편으로 벗어나지 않게 하려 함이라. 이로써 그가 자기 왕국 가운데서 자기 날들을 연장하게 하려는 취지니, 그와 그의 자식들이 이스라엘 한가운데서 자기 날들을 연장하게 하려는 것이라.

20 That his heart be not lifted up above his brethren, and that he turn not aside from the commandment, to the right hand, or to the left: to the end that he may prolong his days in his kingdom, he, and his children, in the midst of Israel.
