신명기 21장

1 만일 주 너의 하나님께서 그곳을 차지하라고 너에게 주시는 지역 가운데서 누군가 살해되어 들에 놓여 있는 채 발견되었는데 누가 그를 살해하였는지 알려지지 아니한 경우,

1 If one be found slain in the land which the LORD thy God giveth thee to possess it, lying in the field, and it be not known who hath slain him:

2 그때 너의 장로들과 너의 판관들은 나올지니, 그들은 살해된 자 주변에 있는 도시들까지 거리를 측정할지니라.

2 Then thy elders and thy judges shall come forth, and they shall measure unto the cities which are round about him that is slain:

3 그리하면 이러한 일이 있을지니, 살해된 사람과 인접한 도시, 바로 그 도시의 장로들은 부려진 적이 없고 멍에가 메인 적이 없는 암송아지 한 마리를 취할지니라.

3 And it shall be, that the city which is next unto the slain man, even the elders of that city shall take an heifer, which hath not been wrought with, and which hath not drawn in the yoke;

4 그러고 나서 그 도시의 장로들은 거친 골짜기로 그 암송아지를 데리고 내려갈지니, 그곳은 이삭이 나오지도, 씨가 뿌려지지도 아니한 곳이어야 하리라. 그런 다음에 거기 그 골짜기에서 그 암송아지의 목을 쳐 낼지니라.

4 And the elders of that city shall bring down the heifer unto a rough valley, which is neither eared nor sown, and shall strike off the heifer's neck there in the valley:

5 그러고 나서 레위의 아들들인 제사장들도 가까이 나아올지니라. 이는 주 너의 하나님께서 그들을 선택하시어 그분을 섬기게 하셨고, 주의 이름으로 축복하게 하셨기 때문이라. 그런즉 모든 논란과 모든 분쟁은 저마다 그들의 말에 의하여 심리를 받아야 하리라.

5 And the priests the sons of Levi shall come near; for them the LORD thy God hath chosen to minister unto him, and to bless in the name of the LORD; and by their word shall every controversy and every stroke be tried:

6 그리고 살해된 사람과 인접한 도시의 모든 장로들은 그 골짜기에서 목이 잘린 암송아지 위에 자신들의 손을 씻을지니라.

6 And all the elders of that city, that are next unto the slain man, shall wash their hands over the heifer that is beheaded in the valley:

7 그러면서 그들은 이같이 대답하며 말할지니라. ‘우리의 손이 이 피를 흘리지 않았으며 우리의 눈도 그것을 보지 않았나이다.

7 And they shall answer and say, Our hands have not shed this blood, neither have our eyes seen it.

8 오, 주여, 당신께서 구속하신, 당신의 백성 이스라엘에게 자비를 베푸소서. 그리하여 무고한 피를 당신의 백성인 이스라엘의 책임으로 두지 마옵소서.’ 그리하면 그 피가 그들에게서 용서되리라.

8 Be merciful, O LORD, unto thy people Israel, whom thou hast redeemed, and lay not innocent blood unto thy people of Israel's charge. And the blood shall be forgiven them.

9 그렇게 하여 주의 목전에서 네가 옳은 것을 행할 때 너는 너희 가운데서 무고한 피의 죄과를 치워 버리리라.

9 So shalt thou put away the guilt of innocent blood from among you, when thou shalt do that which is right in the sight of the LORD.

10 ¶ 네가 너의 원수들을 대적하여 전쟁하러 나가서 주 너의 하나님께서 너의 두 손안에 그들을 넘겨주시어 네가 그들을 포로로 잡았는데

10 ¶ When thou goest forth to war against thine enemies, and the LORD thy God hath delivered them into thine hands, and thou hast taken them captive,

11 포로들 가운데서 한 아름다운 여자를 보고 그녀에게 갈망이 있어 네가 그녀를 너의 아내로 삼고자 할 때면,

11 And seest among the captives a beautiful woman, and hast a desire unto her, that thou wouldest have her to thy wife;

12 그때 너는 그녀를 너의 집에 있는 가정으로 데려올지니라. 그리고 그녀는 그녀의 머리를 밀고 그녀의 손톱들을 깎을지니라.

12 Then thou shalt bring her home to thine house; and she shall shave her head, and pare her nails;

13 그러고 나서 그녀는 자기 포로기의 의상을 자신에게서 벗겨 낸 뒤에 너의 집 안에 남을지니라. 그러고는 그녀의 아버지와 그녀의 어머니를 위하여 한 달 내내 통곡할지니라. 그러고 난 뒤에 너는 그녀에게로 들어가서 그녀의 남편이 될 것이요, 그녀는 너의 아내가 되리라.

13 And she shall put the raiment of her captivity from off her, and shall remain in thine house, and bewail her father and her mother a full month: and after that thou shalt go in unto her, and be her husband, and she shall be thy wife.

14 그런데 만일 네가 그녀를 크게 즐거워하지 않는다면 이러한 일이 있을지니, 그때 너는 그녀가 원하는 곳으로 그녀를 가게 할지니라. 다만 너는 일절 돈을 위하여 그녀를 팔아서는 아니 되나니, 너는 그녀를 상품화하지 말지니라. 이는 네가 그녀를 비천하게 한 까닭이라.

14 And it shall be, if thou have no delight in her, then thou shalt let her go whither she will; but thou shalt not sell her at all for money, thou shalt not make merchandise of her, because thou hast humbled her.

15 ¶ 만일 어떤 남자에게 두 명의 아내들이 있어서 하나는 사랑받고 또 하나는 몹시 미움받는데, 사랑받는 자와 몹시 미움받는 자 양쪽 모두가 그에게 자식들을 낳아 주는 경우, 그리고 첫아들이 몹시 미움받는 여인 쪽인 경우,

15 ¶ If a man have two wives, one beloved, and another hated, and they have born him children, both the beloved and the hated; and if the firstborn son be hers that was hated:

16 그가 자기 아들들에게 자신이 가진 것을 상속하게 하는 그때 이러한 일이 있을지니, 그는 몹시 미움받는 쪽의 아들 앞에 사랑받는 쪽의 아들을 첫 태생으로 삼을 수 없느니라. 미움받는 쪽의 아들이 정녕 첫 태생이라.

16 Then it shall be, when he maketh his sons to inherit that which he hath, that he may not make the son of the beloved firstborn before the son of the hated, which is indeed the firstborn:

17 오히려 그는 자신이 가진 모든 것 중에서 두 배의 몫을 몹시 미움받는 쪽의 아들에게 줌으로써 그를 첫 태생으로 인정할지니라. 이는 그 아들이 그의 힘의 시작이기 때문이라. 첫 태생의 권리는 그의 것이라.

17 But he shall acknowledge the son of the hated for the firstborn, by giving him a double portion of all that he hath: for he is the beginning of his strength; the right of the firstborn is his.

18 ¶ 만일 어떤 남자에게 완고하고 반역적인 아들이 있는데 부모가 그를 징계하였을 때 그가 자기 아버지의 음성이나 자기 어머니의 음성에 순종하려 하지 아니하고 그들에게 경청하려 하지 않는다면,

18 ¶ If a man have a stubborn and rebellious son, which will not obey the voice of his father, or the voice of his mother, and that, when they have chastened him, will not hearken unto them:

19 그때 그의 아버지와 그의 어머니가 그를 붙잡아서 그를 그의 도시의 장로들에게와 그의 처소가 속해 있는 성문으로 데리고 나갈지니라.

19 Then shall his father and his mother lay hold on him, and bring him out unto the elders of his city, and unto the gate of his place;

20 그런 다음에 그들은 그의 도시의 장로들에게 말하기를, ‘우리의 이 아들은 완고하고 반역적이니이다. 그는 우리의 음성에 순종하려 하지 않나이다. 그는 탐식하는 자요, 술주정뱅이니이다.’ 할지니라.

20 And they shall say unto the elders of his city, This our son is stubborn and rebellious, he will not obey our voice; he is a glutton, and a drunkard.

21 그리하면 그의 도시에 있는 모든 사람들이 그를 돌들로 쳐서 그로 하여금 죽게 할지니라. 그렇게 하여 너는 너희 가운데서 악을 치워 버릴지니라. 그리하면 온 이스라엘이 듣고 두려워하리라.

21 And all the men of his city shall stone him with stones, that he die: so shalt thou put evil away from among you; and all Israel shall hear, and fear.

22 ¶ 그리고 만일 어떤 사람이 죽어 마땅한 어떤 죄를 저질렀는데 그가 사형에 처해져야 해서 네가 그를 한 나무 위에 매단 경우,

22 ¶ And if a man have committed a sin worthy of death, and he be to be put to death, and thou hang him on a tree:

23 그의 몸이 나무 위에 밤새 남아 있지 않게 할지니라. 오히려 너는 기필코 그날에 그를 장사할지니, (이는 나무에 달리는 자는 하나님께 저주를 받는 것이기 때문이라.) 주 너의 하나님께서 유산으로 너에게 주시는 너의 지역이 더럽혀지지 않게 하려 함이라.

23 His body shall not remain all night upon the tree, but thou shalt in any wise bury him that day; (for he that is hanged is accursed of God;) that thy land be not defiled, which the LORD thy God giveth thee for an inheritance.
