신명기 25장

1 만일 사람들 사이에 어떤 논란이 있어 그들이 재판으로 나아와 판관들로 하여금 그들을 재판하도록 하는 경우, 그때 그들은 의로운 자들의 정당함을 입증하고 사악한 자들을 정죄할지니라.

1 If there be a controversy between men, and they come unto judgment, that the judges may judge them; then they shall justify the righteous, and condemn the wicked.

2 그런즉 이러한 일이 있을지니, 만일 사악한 사람이 맞는 것이 합당하다면, 그 판관은 그를 엎드리게 하여 그의 잘못에 따라 일정한 수대로 자기 얼굴 앞에서 맞게 할지니라.

2 And it shall be, if the wicked man be worthy to be beaten, that the judge shall cause him to lie down, and to be beaten before his face, according to his fault, by a certain number.

3 판관은 그에게 사십 대의 매를 부과할 수 있으나 그 이상은 초과할 수 없느니라. 만일 그가 초과하여 이것들보다 많은 수의 매로 그를 때린다면, 그때 너의 형제가 너에게 하찮게 보일까 함이라.

3 Forty stripes he may give him, and not exceed: lest, if he should exceed, and beat him above these with many stripes, then thy brother should seem vile unto thee.

4 ¶ 너는 소가 곡식을 밟아 떨 때 그에게 입마개를 씌우지 말지니라.

4 ¶ Thou shalt not muzzle the ox when he treadeth out the corn.

5 ¶ 만일 형제들이 함께 거하는데 그들 중 한 명이 죽고 자식이 없는 경우, 죽은 자의 아내는 외부에 있는 타국인과 혼인하지 말지니라. 그녀의 남편의 형제는 그녀에게 들어가서 그녀를 자신에게 아내로 취하여 그녀에게 남편의 형제 된 의무를 수행할지니라.

5 ¶ If brethren dwell together, and one of them die, and have no child, the wife of the dead shall not marry without unto a stranger: her husband's brother shall go in unto her, and take her to him to wife, and perform the duty of an husband's brother unto her.

6 그러고 나면 이러한 일이 있을지니, 그녀가 낳는 첫 태생은 그의 죽은 형제의 이름을 계승할지니라. 이는 그의 이름이 이스라엘에서 끊어지지 않게 하려 함이라.

6 And it shall be, that the firstborn which she beareth shall succeed in the name of his brother which is dead, that his name be not put out of Israel.

7 그런데 만일 그 남자가 자기 형제의 아내를 취하고 싶어 하지 않는 경우, 그때 그의 형제의 아내는 성문에 있는 장로들에게 올라가서 말하기를, ‘내 남편의 형제가 이스라엘 가운데서 자기 형제에게 한 이름을 일으켜 세우는 것을 거절하니, 그는 내 남편의 형제의 의무를 수행하려 하지 아니하나이다.’ 하라.

7 And if the man like not to take his brother's wife, then let his brother's wife go up to the gate unto the elders, and say, My husband's brother refuseth to raise up unto his brother a name in Israel, he will not perform the duty of my husband's brother.

8 그때 그의 도시의 장로들은 그를 불러 그에게 이야기할지니라. 그런데 만일 그가 그것을 고수하여 말하기를, ‘나는 그녀를 취하고 싶지 않노라.’ 하는 경우,

8 Then the elders of his city shall call him, and speak unto him: and if he stand to it, and say, I like not to take her;

9 그때 그의 형제의 아내는 장로들의 면전에서 그에게로 나아와 그의 발에서 그의 신발을 벗기고 그의 얼굴에 침을 뱉으며 대답하여 말하기를, ‘자기 형제의 집을 세우려고 하지 아니하는 사람에게는 이처럼 행해지리라.’ 할지니라.

9 Then shall his brother's wife come unto him in the presence of the elders, and loose his shoe from off his foot, and spit in his face, and shall answer and say, So shall it be done unto that man that will not build up his brother's house.

10 그리고 이스라엘 가운데서 그의 이름이 ‘자기 신발이 벗겨진 자의 집’이라 불리리라.

10 And his name shall be called in Israel, The house of him that hath his shoe loosed.

11 ¶ 남자들이 서로 분쟁할 때, 한쪽의 아내가 그녀의 남편을 치는 자의 손에서 남편을 구해 내려고 가까이 다가가서 자기 손을 내밀어 그를 잡되, 그의 비밀스러운 곳들을 잡을 때면,

11 ¶ When men strive together one with another, and the wife of the one draweth near for to deliver her husband out of the hand of him that smiteth him, and putteth forth her hand, and taketh him by the secrets:

12 그때 너는 그녀의 손을 잘라 버릴지니, 너의 눈은 그녀를 동정하지 말지니라.

12 Then thou shalt cut off her hand, thine eye shall not pity her.

13 ¶ 너는 너의 가방 안에 상이한 저울추들, 곧 한 쪽은 크고 한 쪽은 작은 것을 지니지 말지니라.

13 ¶ Thou shalt not have in thy bag divers weights, a great and a small.

14 너는 너의 집 안에 상이한 도량들, 곧 한 쪽은 크고 한 쪽은 작은 것을 지니지 말지니라.

14 Thou shalt not have in thine house divers measures, a great and a small.

15 오직 너는 완전하고 공정한 저울추를 지닐지니, 너는 완전하고 공정한 도량을 지닐지니라. 이는 주 너의 하나님께서 너에게 주시는 그 지역 가운데서 너의 날들이 길어지게 하려 함이라.

15 But thou shalt have a perfect and just weight, a perfect and just measure shalt thou have: that thy days may be lengthened in the land which the LORD thy God giveth thee.

16 이는 그러한 짓들을 하는 모든 이와 불의하게 행하는 모든 이는 주 너의 하나님께 가증함이 되기 때문이라.

16 For all that do such things, and all that do unrighteously, are an abomination unto the LORD thy God.

17 ¶ 너희가 이집트에서 나왔을 때 아말렉이 길에서 너에게 행한 일을 기억하라.

17 ¶ Remember what Amalek did unto thee by the way, when ye were come forth out of Egypt;

18 네가 기진하고 지쳤을 때 그가 어떻게 길에서 너를 만나 너의 가장 뒤쪽에 있는 자들, 곧 너의 뒤에 있는 모든 나약한 자들을 쳤는지 기억하라. 그런즉 그는 하나님을 두려워하지 아니하였도다.

18 How he met thee by the way, and smote the hindmost of thee, even all that were feeble behind thee, when thou wast faint and weary; and he feared not God.

19 그러므로 주 너의 하나님께서 그곳을 차지하라고 유산으로 너에게 주시는 지역 가운데서, 주변에 있는 너의 모든 원수들로부터 주 너의 하나님께서 너에게 안식을 주실 때 이러한 일이 있을지니, 너는 하늘 아래로부터 아말렉의 기억을 지워 없앨지니라. 너는 그것을 잊지 말지니라.

19 Therefore it shall be, when the LORD thy God hath given thee rest from all thine enemies round about, in the land which the LORD thy God giveth thee for an inheritance to possess it, that thou shalt blot out the remembrance of Amalek from under heaven; thou shalt not forget it.
